This is a full list of patch notes for the December 19 update of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (MW3). Learn about the December 19 update, including info on several Zombies missions bug fixes, balance changes, and Dark Aether loot buffs.
December 19 Update Highlights
Better Loot from the Dark Aether
Prior to this patch, loot obtained from the Dark Aether would usually be comparable to Red Zone contract loot (excluding Classified Schematics). This made the Dark Aether a sort of one-and-done experience for many players.
With the new update, Dark Aether loot should be much more substantial, toning down previous reward rifts that only gave you Perk Colas and Rare Aether Tools for all of your effort.
Easier Solo Gorm'gant Boss Fight
Solo players who found themselves hitting a wall when tackling the Gorm'gant boss can now rest easy as the fight now appropriately scales for solos. This allows solo players to unlock the Dark Aether endgame location since Gorm'gant is a required boss fight to access the area.

Zombies Missions
Act 1 Missions
- Automated Backup: Mission progress will now also track regular turret circuits.
- Freezer Burn: Mission progress has been adjusted to now give credit on Cryo Freeze kills in addition to slowing enemies with Cryo Freeze.
- Fire Power: Mission progress will now also track kills for Pack-a-Punch levels 2 and 3.
Act 2 Missions
- More Firepower: Mission progress will now also track kills for Pack-a-Punch level 3.
Act 4 Missions
- Dead Signal: Adjusted the Gorm'gant boss fight difficulty in Dead Signal to scale better for solo players.
Zombies Gameplay
Dark Aether Rift Loot Update
- Contract Rewards have been tuned to provide better rewards.
