Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) currently has no options for changing reticles and crosshairs, but there are numerous options for optics attachments. See how to change reticles, crosshairs, and optics in this guide.
Images displayed below are from Modern Warfare 2.
Like in Modern Warfare 2, the reticle and crosshair's size and color cannot be changed in Modern Warfare 3. The default white crosshair ensures players play on an even field.
The reticle can be turned off by going to Settings, selecting the Interface tab, and toggling it off under the HUD section.
Turning it off for increased immersion is totally fine, but it is not recommended for multiplayer matches, especially in Ranked Play as you'll need all the advantage you can get.
You can add a center dot by turning it on under Advanced Interface Settings section in the Interface tab of the Settings menu.
It's recommended to add a center dot to hit accurate shots and track enemies better. It also helps in close-quarters combat where you might find yourself hip firing most of the time. Turning this on can also help alleviate motion sickness if you experience it.
While still unconfirmed, previous games in the series allowed reticle customization. It's still up in the air if the developers will eventually patch in the ability to personalize reticles.
Optics and other weapon attachments can be changed at the Gunsmith. Try to always have an optics attachment equipped on your gun to increase your chances of winning medium to long-range gunfights, as plain iron sights may not be enough.
New optics are unlocked as you gain XP and level up your guns. To unlock certain optics attachments, you'll need to check its unlock criteria first to know which gun you'll have to prioritize using.
