The Surveillance Camera is a key used to open the Dark Aether Rift in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) Zombies. Read on to learn how to get the Surveillance Camera, how to upgrade it to Gold rarity, and where to place it to open the Dark Aether Rift.
List of Contents
You can get the purple rarity Surveillance Camera by equipping a Dead Wire Ammo Mod to your gun and destroying a Harvester Orb. Follow the steps below to get the Surveillance Camera and upgrade it to Gold Rarity in one game:
To get the Surveillance Camera, you'll need to get a Dead Wire Ammo Mod and equip it to your gun. You can obtain the Dead Wire Ammo Mod by opening Loot Caches and Reward Rifts.
Note: If you already have the Dead Wire Ammo Mod schematic, you can craft it before the match so that you deploy with it immediately.
Shooting a Harvester Orb will cause it to flee. Be careful of enemies along the way when following the Harvester Orb.
With a Dead Wire Ammo Mod equipped, find any Harvester Orb on the map and destroy it. You will know if the Dead Wire Ammo Mod affected the Harvester Orb if it changes color from purple to yellow.
On death, the Harvester Orb will drop a purple rarity Surveillance Camera for you to pick up. Keep it in your Rucksack since it will need to be upgraded before you can place it on a Rift Pedestal.
Harvester Orb Locations and How to Destroy
While the purple Surveillance Camera is in your inventory, enter any Aether Tear on the map. Once you redeploy in the air, immediately open your parachute and look around for a Yellow Aether Tear.
Enter the Yellow Aether Tear to teleport to a new location where you should see a unique Purple Contract nearby. Find it to start the Purple Bounty Contract that you need to upgrade the Surveillance Camera.
Aether Tears will appear on your map only if you're close to them, but they should be easy to find when one is nearby because they have a distinct purple glow.
The Purple Contract will give you an objective to defeat a Tier 2 Big Bounty HVT, which will can spawn as a Mangler, Disciple, or Mimic in the Medium Threat Zone.
Once the HVT is defeated, open the Reward Rift to upgrade the Surveillance Camera into a Gold Surveillance Camera.
Unlike the Big Bounty HVT for the Pill Bottle's upgrade contract, the Surveillance Camera contract will take you to the Medium Threat Zone. If you're playing with a small group (3-man) or as a solo, we recommend getting at least Pack-a-Punch 2 for your gun due to the target's increased HP.
Pack-a-Punch Cost and Locations
Proceed to the Dark Aether Rift found on a small island towards the south in the Red Zone. Find the Rift Pedestal with the Lightning symbol and place the Gold Surveillance Camera to activate 1 of the 4 Rift Pedestals needed to open the Dak Aether Rift.
Note: Do not place the Gold Surveillance Camera on the Rift Pedestal until you have the other 3 keys. Rift Pedestal progress is not tracked and if you don't place all 4 keys in a single match, you'll need to repeat the entire process in the next match.
Pedestal Keys | How to Get |
---|---|
Locked Diary | Complete the Bad Signal Act 4 Mission. |
Pill Bottle | Open a Toxic Cyst inside an Aether Nest or Infested Stronghold using Brain Rot Ammo Mod |
Dog Collar | Spawn a hostile Hellhound at any Doghouse and kill it. |
To open the Dark Aether Rift, you'll need to activate the three other Rift Pedestals by placing the other keys on their respective pedestals.
The Surveillance Camera is one of the four keys required to open the Dark Aether Rift, along with the Locked Diary, Pill Bottle, and Dog Collar.
The Dark Aether Rift takes players to a new location called the Dark Aether, an entirely separate map from Urzikstan. Entering the Dark Aether will extend the match by 30 minutes, allowing players to take on the new Dark Aether Contracts for more valuable loot like the new Classified Schematics.
