How to Unlock Hard Luck Blues

Talk to Morgan Blake at the NCR Sharecropper Farms

You can start the Hard Luck Blues by talking to Morgan Blade at the NCR Sharecropper Farms. She can be found sitting alone in an open area after entering the large gate.

Hard Luck Blues Walkthrough

Speak to Morgan Blake at the NCR Sharecropper Farms

Speak to Morgan Blake and learn about their issues with the water and the crops to start investigating the Pump Station.

Head to the East Pump Station

Head northeast towards the East Pump Station. This is a small building not far from the NCR Sharercropper Farms near the highway.

Activate the Pump Station Terminal

From here, you will need to either activate the terminal or repair the network connection first before activating the terminal. Choosing to repair the network connection is insignificant and will have no effect to your progression of the side quest and its rewards.

Head to Vault 34 to Find the Source of the Radiation

Head towards Vault 34 and explore the area to gain access to the Armory Terminal and the Overseer's Office. Here, you will need 2 different Terminal Passwords, which you can obtain by swimming into the lower levels of the Vault and taking them from a corpse.

Do note that this area is full of enemies, so make sure you are fully prepared before entering Vault 34.

Where to Find Vault 34 Utility Terminal Password

The Security Terminal Password can be found on a corpse underwater after passing the Operations Room and descending the stairs.

The Utility Terminal Password can be found on a corpse underwater after passing the Clinic and descending the stairs, before reaching the Utility Room.

Activate Vault 34 Pump Station Utility Terminal

Using the Utility Terminal Password on the computer inside the Utility Room, you will be able to unlock a nearby door to your right. Continue exploring this area until you find another computer that unlocks the Overseer's Office. Then, backtrack to the clinic and head straight to the Overseer's Office.

Explore the Overseer's Office

Continue following the path until you reach a small control room, where you will have to defeat the Overseer.

Defeat the Overseer and Take the Password

Defeat the Overseer and examine its corpse to obtain the password. You can then use this password to access the Overseer's Journal on the terminal in the same room before continuing with the Side Quest.

Continue Down the Reactor Using the Tunnel

Continue exploring downstairs until you reach a terminal with a glowing red keyboard. Use this computer to unlock a nearby door and access the final terminal. Here, you will have to decide whether to Seal External Ventilation or to Reroute the Vault Control. Choosing either one will instantly complete the quest.

Seal External Ventilation or Reroute Vault Control

If you choose to Seal External Ventilation, the radiation affecting the Sharecropper Farms will be resolved, but it will leave the surviving Vault Dwellers trapped (100 XP and NCR Fame). However, if you choose to Reroute Vault Control to allow the Vault Dwellers to escape, the Sharecropper Farms will remain affected by the radiation (150 XP).

Best Choice for Hard Luck Blues

Seal External Ventilation and Help the Sharecropper Farms

It is highly recommended that you instead Seal External Ventilation to assist the Sharecropper Farms, as this decision will grant you additional NCR Fame and XP. Rerouting Vault Control will only provide you with 150 XP and no Fame.
