This is a walkthrough of the Heartache by the Number side quest in Fallout New Vegas (FNV). Read on to learn how to unlock Heartache by the Number, where to find Rose of Sharon Cassidy, the quest rewards, and the best dialogue choices for completing the Heartache by the Number side quest.
Recruit Cass during the You Can Depend on Me side quest and talk to her to begin this quest.
After recruiting Cass during the You Can Depend on Me side quest, you can talk to her to begin this side quest.
Follow your compass to the site of Cass's caravan. After walking around the caravan, Cass will speak to you about investigating further.
Follow your compass to the Griffin Wares caravan wreckage. As with the previous objective, walk around the caravan and wait for Cass to approach you again.
Follow your compass to Durable Dunn's caravan. Walk across the bridge then underneath it, after which Cass will speak to you again. At this point you will need to choose how to progress this quest.
Head for either Crimson Caravan Company and Silver Rush. It's up to you to choose which area to head to first but both areas will have a lot of guards so be prepared to fight. After killing Alice McLafferty and Gloria Van Graff, talk to Cass to conclude this side quest.
For this objective, you can choose which area to head to first. At Crimson Caravan Company, you can find the evidence in the safe beside Alice McLafferty's desk. This will require a 50 Lockpick skill check to unlock. At Silver Rush, you can find the evidence inside the safe found in the inner office.
You can get inside the room by pickpocketing a one of the Silver Rush guards or by passing a 75 Lockpick. The safe itself can be unlocked with 75 Lockpick or through the terminal with 75 Science. After gathering both pieces of evidence, talk to Jackson at the Mojave Outpost then talk to Cass to complete this side quest.
When choosing how to help Cass deal with the Crimson Caravan and the Van Graffs, we recommend choosing to get evidence of their crimes and have the NCR deal with them.
Going with this route keeps your NCR reputation unblemished while also unlocking the Calm Heart companion perk for Cass which gives her additional health points This allows you to focus on taking down enemies without having to worry much about Cass's wellbeing.
