While exploring the Mojave Wasteland of Fallout New Vegas, you might come across people who will make a request and send you on a Side Quest. These are optional quests you can complete at any time to explore more of the wasteland, meet more characters, and sometimes receive special rewards such as unique weapons in addition to XP, caps, and fame.
Some side quests are associated with certain factions, and how you proceed with the quests may affect your relationship with them.
Reputation determines your relationship with a faction or settlement and changes when gaining fame and infamy. You gain fame with a faction by doing good deeds that affect them and gain infamy by doing evil deeds that affect that faction.
How to Change Faction Reputation
In addition to affecting reputation, some side quests also require your reputation with an associated faction to be on a certain level for you to access them. For instance, if you have a Vilified reputation with the Great Khans, they will become hostile and you will be locked out of the quests associated with them.
