Ways to Get in The Strip |
---|
・Pass the 80 Science skill check. ・Have at least 2000 caps on hand. ・Use the Camp McCarran Monorail by having a Liked NCR reputation or an NCR disguise. ・Have Ralph from Mick and Ralph's in Freeside make you a passport by passing a 50 Speech Skill check and paying 500 caps (or 375 with a successful 50 Barter skill check). ・Complete the G.I. Blues side quest to gain a favor from The King. Use that favor to have Ralph make you a passport. |
Note that once you arrive at The Strip, you will be greeted by Victor and The House Always Wins I quest will initiate. The quest will ask you to head to the Lucky 38 Casino which you can do before or after heading to The Tops Casino.
There are several ways to tackle this quest, but it will mostly end with one of two outcomes: either Benny lives or dies. Technically you can just shoot him where he stands, but with the armed guards around him, this would not be viable if you were doing a normal playthrough of the game.
If you chose to follow The House Always Wins I first, then you would have found out about Swank. But even if you didn't, asking for his help by simply talking to him at the reception works as well.
Depending on how well you do with Speech skill checks (15-45 Speech required) and providing evidence, Swank can help in three ways:
・Allow you to keep your weapons
・Provide the keys to Benny's suite
・Have Benny sent to the Presidential Suite alone
Evidence You Need to Convince Swank |
---|
・Cigarett butts from your grave in Goodsprings ・Chairman Job Offer acquired from Jessup in They Went That-a-Way ・Engraved Cigarette Lighter acquired from Jessup in They Went That-a-Way |
If you choose to directly interact with Benny, there are still several ways the story can go. But as long as you can isolate him from his guards, you're only a few steps away from the best possible result of the quest.
There are two ways to convince Benny to be alone with you:
・Have the Black Widow Perk and seduce Benny
・Pass the Speech 65 skill check and go to the presidential suite with him
If you were able to isolate Benny, then the next step would be to kill him to get the Platinum Chip. If you talked to Swank and recovered your weapons, then the fight should be easy. If you had the Black Widow Perk and seduced Benny, you should be able to kill him in his sleep.
Killing Benny will unlock and initiate the Wild Card: Ace in the Hole main quest.
If you fail to isolate Benny, there are several ways he can escape. For instance, if you fail to convince him to go to the presidential suite with you, he won't be there when you arrive. This will culminate with him going missing from the casino and taking the Platinum Chip with him. Aside from him escaping, you will also sometimes have the option to let him go.
Take note that in some of these cases where he escapes, a group of enemies may ambush you, so be ready for a fight. However, you may also have a chance to convince Benny to leave you be.
If Benny escapes, you will still have a chance to acquire the Platinum Chip during the Render Unto Caesar main quest.
At different points during the quest, you will have the chance to search Benny's suite. In his room, you will find Yes Man whom you can interact with. During the conversations, you can learn about the Platinum Chip, Benny, Mr. House, and the other factions in the game.
Interacting with Yes Man will also trigger several main quests that if followed, may lead to an Independent New Vegas ending for the story.
During the Boulder City Showdown side quest, you will encounter Jessup who will unlock this main quest for you in one of two ways.
If you choose to kill Jessup during the quest, you can loot his body for the Chairman Job Offer item. If you choose to negotiate with Jessup, you can ask him about the Platinum Chip.
The easiest way to complete this quest will be available to you if you have the Black Widow Perk. The perk will allow you to seduce Benny and kill him in his sleep without a fight.
If you don't have the Black Widow Perk, then you will have to find another way to isolate and kill Benny. This choice will still allow you to kill him without his guards interfering and to loot his body for the Platinum Chip, a crucial item for later quests.
Despite technically being a part of The House Always Wins I main quest, you can skip past the objectives of that quest and speak directly to Swank at the reception. There are 2 ways to convince him to isolate Benny in the presidential suite and let you keep your weapons: have a Speech Skill of at least 45 or have the required evidence.
