This is a walkthrough of the Nothin’ But a Hound Dog side quest in Fallout New Vegas (FNV). Read on to learn which brain to choose for Rex, how to unlock Nothin’ But a Hound Dog, where to find The King, the quest rewards, and the best dialogue choices for completing the Nothin’ But a Hound Dog side quest.
Before you can take on Nothin’ But a Hound Dog, you will first need to finish the G.I. Blues side quest as this introduces you to The King in Freeside. After completing said quest, talk to The King and you can begin Nothin’ But a Hound Dog.

Talk to The King in King's School of Impersonation in Freeside to begin this quest.
Head to the Old Mormon Fort just outside of Freeside and talk to Julie Farkas. After speaking to her, head back to The King and tell him about the brain surgery for Rex.
Follow your compass and head for Jacobstown then speak with Doctor Henry. He'll give you three choices for which brains can be transplanted to Rex.
Choose a brain for Rex and set out to its location. While you only need one brain to continue this quest, you may opt to retrieve all three brains.
After retrieving a brain, head back to Jacobstown and speak with Doctor Henry to begin the surgery.

Benefits from each brain only apply to Rex and not to your character.
We recommend choosing Lupa's brain as this increases Rex's toughness, effectively allowing him to be more durable in battle. This allows you to focus on taking down enemies without having to worry much about Rex's wellbeing.
Do note that you can choose any of the other brains should it benefit your playstyle or build.
