Talk to Sunny in the Prospector Saloon

After exiting Doc Mitchell's home. Follow the road towards east until you reach the Prospector Saloon with the open neon sign. Enter the building to trigger a conversation with Sunny.

Meet Sunny Behind the Saloon

After the conversation, follow Sunny outside the saloon. She will hand you a Varmint Rifle and some ammo to help you learn and practice your shooting.

Shoot 3 Bottles

Use the Varmint Rifle to shoot any 3 bottles among those on top of the fence. Click your Right Mouse Button or Left Trigger on a controller to zoom in and increase the accuracy of your shots, making it easier to hit the bottles.

Follow Sunny or End the Tutorial

After successfully shooting 3 bottles, Sunny will offer you a chance to help kill geckos in the area to give you live moving targets.

Alternatively, you can end the tutorial here if you want to get back to the main story with the They Went That-a-Way quest or if you want to start exploring on your own.

Kill the Geckos at the Well

After agreeing to help Sunny, follow her towards the location of the geckos. These will attack you back when they get close, so be sure to kill them quickly.

If your stats lean towards proficiency with sneak attacks, you can practice it here as well by crouch-walking toward the geckos. An indicator on top of your screen will tell you if you are hidden or detected.

Follow Sunny Again or End Tutorial

After killing the geckos, talk to Sunny and she will offer you another chance to kill more geckos. However, this time, she will offer a payment of 50 bottle caps, the game's currency.

Alternatively, you will be provided another chance to end the tutorial here if you want to get back to the main story with the They Went That-a-Way quest or if you want to start exploring on your own.

Kill the Geckos at the Other Wells

If you choose to continue to the next location, you'll find a woman being attacked by the geckos. If you can save the woman by killing the geckos quickly, you can interact with her, and she will reward you with 3 Purified water and Goodsprings Fame.

You can also use this opportunity to try out V.A.T.S. or Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System, the game's alternate combat system.

Talk to Sunny About Your Reward

After defeating the geckos, return to Sunny to receive your reward of 50 battle caps. She will also offer you another tutorial quest, By a Campfire on the Trail, which you can continue with or you can decline to end the tutorial.

How to Unlock Back in the Saddle

Complete Ain't That a Kick in the Head

The Back in the Saddle quest is unlocked immediately after exiting Doc Mitchell's home and completing the Ain't That a Kick in the Head quest.

Back in the Saddle Best Choice

Complete the Tutorial

Several times during this quest, you will be given the choice to end the tutorial. However, given how short the duration is, it's better to complete the quest and reap the rewards.
