Talk to Major Polatli and Quartermaster Mayes

Fallout New Vegas - Talk to Major Polatli

Talk to Major Polatli at Camp Forlorn Hope and ask how you can help out. Head for the tent with the open flap to the right and talk to Quartermaster Mayes.

Mayes will task you with retrieving the Forlorn Hope Supplies.

Go to HELIOS One to Ask About Forlorn Hope Supplies

Fallout New Vegas - Go to HELIOS One

Mayes will task you with retrieving the Forlorn Hope Supplies. You can go about this two ways: go to HELIOS One and get the specific coordinates of the supplies or you can find the location of the supplies yourself.

After you pick up the supplies, three Legionaries will spawn so be ready to fight.

Forlorn Hope Supplies Location

Return the Supplies to Quartermaster Mayes

Fallout New Vegas - Return the Supplies to Quartermaster Mayes

After retrieving the supplies, head back to Camp Forlorn Hope and return the supplies to Quartermaster Mayes. He'll then ask you to report back to Major Polatli.

Speak to Major Polatli

Fallout New Vegas - Speak to Major Polatli

Speak to Major Polatli and he'll tell you to check in with Dr. Richards. You can find Dr. Richards in the medical tent.

Meet With Dr. Richards

Fallout New Vegas - Meet With Dr. Richards

Speak with Dr. Richards and at this point you can either help cure his patients or decline from doing so. You will need 20 Medicine to help out and once you check up on the patients you will need even higher points in Medicine to operate on them.

If you don't have the required Medicine skill, you can use the medical equipment in the tent to treat them with the items required varying per patient. You may also opt to not help Dr. Richards at which point he will ask you to report back to Major Polatli.

Should You Help Dr. Richards? ▼

Return to Major Polatli

Fallout New Vegas - Return to Major Polatli

Return to Major Polatli after meeting up with Dr. Richards and he'll ask you to help in dealing with the Legion forces at Nelson.

Meet With Sergeant Cooper

Fallout New Vegas - Meet With Sergeant Cooper

Follow your compass and meet up with Sergeant Cooper just outside Nelson. He'll ask if you should attack from the north or from the ridge on the east. We recommend attacking from the North as this lets you get to Dead Sea's cabin quicker.

Defeat the Legion at Nelson

Fallout New Vegas - Defeat the Legion at Nelson

While there are other Legion troopers in the area, your main objective is to take out Dead Sea. You can follow your compass to get to his location where you need to fight him. He will be with Legion troopers so be prepared to fight multiple enemies.

Tell Polatli About the Victory at Nelson

Fallout New Vegas - Tell Polatli About the Victory at Nelson

After defeating Dead Sea and his troopers, return to Polatli and tell him about the victory at Nelson to complete this side quest.

Best Choice for Restoring Hope

Don't Help Dr. Richards

Fallout New Vegas - Don

When Polatli asks you to help out Dr. Richards, we recommend not helping out as the Medicine skill checks go as high as 75. If you don't meet the Medicine skill, you can still attempt to treat the patients but you will end up failing the operation which ends up with your character gaining NCR Infamy.

It would be best to just not help out and continue with the other objectives in the side quest. There are no repercussions of not helping Dr. Richards.
