Breakdown Unneeded Ammo for Materials

Fallout New Vegas - Break Down Ammo For Materials

Unwanted ammo can be broken down into materials that can then be used to craft other ammo types. Make sure you're certain of not using the ammo type, as it's irreversible unless you can quick load to a previous save state.

Buy Ammo

Fallout New Vegas - Buy Ammo

Merchants sell different types of ammo and different variations of those ammo types in exchange for caps. You can pass the time and recheck their wares to see if the ammo has been restocked so you can buy it again.

Best Perks to Farm Ammo

Hand Loader Perk

Console Command to Add Perk Console Command to Remove Perk
player.addperk 0016581B player.removeperk 0016581B

The Hand Loader perk is the best perk for players who specialize in Guns and are enthusiastic about crafting ammo, as this perk increases the chances of recovering Hulls and Cases when firing rounds, which are used in crafting ammo.

It also unlocks a couple of craftable ammo that are slightly better than their standard vartiants.

Scrounger Perk

Console Command to Add Perk Console Command to Remove Perk
player.addperk 00031DAA player.removeperk 00031DAA

The Scrounger perk increases the chance of finding more ammo when looting containers. This is a great perk to have since you'll be opening containers left and right anyway, so you might as well get more ammo from them!

Scrounger ID and How to Get

Ammo Console Command

Get Ammo via Console Command

Command player.additem [Ammo ID] [value]
Example player.additem 0007EA27 100

This feature is only available on the PC, so you can't add ammo through console commands on consoles.

Here's how to open the Console Command:

  1. Press the tilde (~) key to open the console
  2. Type in the command and hit enter
  3. Exit the console with the tilde (~) key
