Fallout New Vegas - Specialize Your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Stats
When building your character, it is better to focus on select stats than making a jack-of-all-trades character. Despite feeling counter-intuitive, removing points from unnecessary S.P.EC.I.A.L. stats depending on your build is imperative.

For example, if you want to focus on a Two-Handed Melee build, increasing Strength and Endurance to 8 and removing 2-3 points from Perception is a good start.
