Best Non-Unique Armor

Remnants Power Armor

The Remnants Power Armor and Power Helmet are the best Power Armor set in Fallout New Vegas. It has the highest Damage Threshold (DT) of all Power Armor, meaning that it can reduce the most damage from attacks.

It also increases your Strength by 1, with a +20 resistance to radiation, but lowers your Charisma by 1, probably because of how menacing the armor looks!

NCR Salvaged Power Armor

The fact that you can equip the NCR Salvage Power Armor set even without the Power Armor Training perk makes it a good choice in the early game, even if it has lesser DT than the Remnants Power Armor, and 2 points deducted to the Agility attribute when worn.

Recon Armor

The Recon Armor is a Medium Armor that offers 17 DT, which is not all that bad considering that you also get five points in your Sneak skill.

Best Unique Armor

Gannon Family Tesla Armor and Helmet

The Gannon Family Tesla Armor is easily the best unique armor in Fallout New Vegas. It has a total of 32 Damage Threshold, just 4 points less than the Remnants Power Armor.

It adds 10 points to the Energy Weapons skill, increasing the damage done by Energy Weapons, and it also increases Radiation Resistance by a total of 25 points from both the armor and the helmet.

It does, however, deduct a point from the Charisma attribute, like the Remnants Power Armor, as they shares a similar appearance. The Gannon Family Tesla Armor has additional coils that add visual effects to the armor.

Explorer's Gear

While it doesn't have the highest Damage Threshold, having only 8 DT, it does offer two points to both Guns and Melee Weapons skills, you also get to look like John Marston from Red Dead Redemption!

1st Recon Beret

The 1st Recon Beret is a piece of headwear that doesn't offer any kind of armor, but provides a +5 to critical chance, useful for getting those critical hits during combat. The beret also increases your Perception attribute by one point!

Benny's Suit

Equip Benny's Suit if you want to negotiate with merchants or persuade people with style! Benny's Suit adds five points to both the Barter and Speech skill.

All Armor Stats Explained

DT (Damage Threshold)

DT is short for Damage Threshold. The number you see on your Pip-Boy that's labeled DT is the amount of damage your armor can absorb before you suffer HP loss.

WG (Weight)

WG stands for Weight and it's how heavy the armor is. This number adds to your overall Carry Weight.

Make sure you have enough space in your carry weight before picking up a piece of armor to avoid being encumbered.

You can check your current carry weight on your Pip-Boy by going to Items. Your current carry weight should be shown at the top beside your HP.

VAL (Value)

VAL is short for Value. It refers to how much your weapon can be sold for with a Trader.
