How to Unlock Unfriendly Persuasion

Enter the Jacobstown Lodge and Then Talk to Marcus at the Entrance

First, you need to enter the Jacobstown Lodge in order to unlock the Side Quest Dialogue from Marcus near the entrance of Jacobstown to immediately start the Unfriendly Persuasion Side Quest.

Enter the Jacobstown Lodge

Jacobstown Lodge Location
Upon arriving at the Jacobstown, head north towards the large building at the end of the settlement. After this, you can immediately leave and approach Marcus at the Jacobstown entrance.

Speak with Marcus at the Jacobstown Entrance

Speak to Marcus. - Unfriendly Persuasion
Speak with Marcus at the entrance of the Jacobstown settlement, located on the northeast side of the Mojave Wasteland.

Talk to Norton Near the Gate

Head outside of Jacobstown and approach Norton to learn about your options for dealing with the Mercenaries. Here, you will need to decide how to resolve the conflict between the Mercenaries and Marcus.

Wipe Out the Mercenaries

Attack the Mercenaries - Unfriendly Persuasion
Firing your weapon near the Mercenaries will automatically start a fight, causing the Mercenaries to shoot you. In this scenario, Marcus and his soldiers will assist you until you are able to eliminate all of the Mercenaries in the area.

Ask Marcus for Money to Pay the Mercenaries

Ask Marcus for Money - Unfriendly Persuasion
After talking to Norton, you can ask Marcus to give you the exact amount of 2500 Bottle Caps or lie and ask for 3000 Bottle Caps to make a profit for yourself.

Convince the Mercenaries to Leave

Speech Requirement - Unfriendly Persuasion
You can also try to convince Norton to leave Jacobstown if you have enough reputation points with the NCR faction or if you have a Speech skill of 65 or higher. This is the most peaceful way to resolve the conflict, but you will not receive any rewards.

Return to Marcus to Finish the Quest

Return to Marcus Unfriendly Persuasion - Unfriendly Persuasion
After you Convince, Bribe, or Wipe Out the Mercenaries, you need to return to Marcus to discuss what happened, which will automatically complete the Side Quest.

Best Choice for Unfriendly Persuasion

Lie to Marcus and Ask for 3000 Bottle Caps

Best Choice Unfriendly Persuasion - Unfriendly Persuasion
After talking to Norton, return to Marcus and ask him for 3000 Bottle Caps to settle the payment. You only need to give Norton 2500 Bottle Caps to make the Mercenaries leave, allowing you to keep an extra 500 Bottle Caps for being the middleman.

Alternatively, you can choose to wipe out the Mercenaries after receiving the Bottle Caps from Marcus, allowing you to keep all of the Bottle Caps for yourself. However, wiping out the Mercenaries will result in gaining infamy with the NCR. If you aim to build up your reputation with this faction, it is highly recommended that you avoid any conflicts with the Mercenaries during this Side Quest.
