Rust is a relatively small map filled with numerous obstacles that you can use for cover. Take advantage of this by camping behind one of them and begin picking off opponents running around one-by-one.
With the amount of chaos going on in the map, most enemies won't bother double checking corners for any potential threats.
The highest point of the Tower located at the middle of Rust is a great place to set up a sniping position as you'll have full vision of the whole map, as well as decent cover to protect you while you're shooting at enemy operators below you.
This position is particularly useful for game modes like Domination where you can watch over and defend the capture points that your team currently controls.
Climbing up the ladder on the side of the tower makes you vulnerable to enemy fire but at least it blocks enemy view.
For more courageous players, scaling over the ventilation system that leads to the top of the tower is a good alternative for people who are certain they can fire back at enemies or jump back down to cover
Consider using SMGs such as the Striker and Rival-9 to maximize the high rate of fire and mobility these guns have as you'll often bump into enemies due to the map's small-scaled size.
A Beginner's Guide to Modern Warfare 3
In the original version of Rust, players were able to glitch into a pipe where they remained hidden and were capable of camping and sniping unsuspecting players. This pipe hiding spot has been removed in MW3.
There is a crawl space under the tower at the ground floor, where you can hide for a bit. This central crawling space gives you easy access to all sections of the map. You're practically a sitting duck here though, since you're crawling with little mobility, but at least the darkness gives you a bit of cover.
The 2nd floor of the tower is a good spot for sniping, as you can move around and get a good vantage point of the whole map.
The top of the tower is an ideal sniping spot as you have a clear view of the entire area. Getting up here is the hardest part though, since it takes a while and you will be open to fire from enemies who spot you. Make sure you have a UAV Jammer to lessen chances of you getting spotted.

Analysis | |
・The Striker SMG is the best gun for Rust due to its high mobility, handling, recoil control, and hip-fire accuracy. It is has an extremely fast fire rate, allowing you to finish an enemy with 15 to 20 ammo.Since Rust is a very small map, you need a gun for short to medium range firefights, which is what the Striker excels at. ・The Renetti has a lot of versatility, deals decent damage, has decent range and great mobility. It can provide a quick swap when your primary runs out of ammo. With the right mods on the Renetti, it can become a powerful sidearm and can even go up against SMGs. The Infantry Vest synergizes fantastically with the Renetti as well. |
