Beginner Tips

Magatama provides buffs/debuffs after leveling

After leveling the Demi-Fiend, there's a chance that his magatama will give a bonus (or a disadvantage). Some of these bonuses are permanent stat bonuses. It is possible to manipulate stat gains by reloading games after leveling up but this can be tedious.

The skills that the Demi-Fiend learns also depend on the Magatama equipped. Make sure to plan out your build by choosing the right magatama to avoid learning skills that may prove useless to you in the long run!

Demons Learn Skills as they level up

Similar to the Demi-Fiend, demons you have recruited to your party also learn skills after leveling up. The skills they can learn are limited, however, so it is better to fuse these demons so their skills can be inherited by the new demon you'll gain from the fusion!

Exploit Enemy Weaknesses

Your character's weaknesses can be exploited by enemies too!

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne has a unique battle system called the Pressturn battle system. Each unit is given one turn and the total turns are the number of turns you can execute in a single round. Using a move will consume one turn but if this move exploits an enemy weakness or lands a critical hit, it will instead, consume half a turn. Missing attacks or hitting an enemy's resistance will make that single turn cost two turns instead so make sure to analyze your enemy and avoid using moves recklessly!

Learn each Status Ailment's effects

It is possible to use ailments to gain the upper hand in battles. Confusing a strong enemy can cause that unit to not use his strong moves against you, poisoning them will give you a huge increase in DPS without relying on full offense, avoid relying too much on raw damage and plan out your battle tactics accordingly!

Use Buffs and Debuffs

Shin Megami Tensei III makes great use of buffs and debuffs especially against boss battles. Stacking Tarukaja 4 times can double your damage. Play around these skills to overcome the strongest bosses in the game!
