Free Weekend Guide - How to Play MW3 Free

There will be a Free to Play Weekend for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) Season 2 from February 8 to 12, 2024. Check out our guide to learn more about the Free Season 2 Access event, how to play MW3 free, and all the content you will be able to play during the MW3 Free Weekend.

Free Weekend Start and End Times

Free-to-Play from December 8 to 12, 2024

MW3 Multiplayer and Zombies will be free-to-play for all players during the Free Season 2 Access event from February 8, 2024 (12 AM PT) to February 12, 2024 (12 AM PT). During this period, players who do not own MW3 can download and play it for free across all supported platforms.

How to Play MW3 Free

Visit Your Console's Storefront and Search for MW3

To play MW3 for free, simply head on over to your platform's storefront and search for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Its related Store page should allow you to download and play the game for free during the Free Weekend Trial period.

PlayStation users (PS5 and PS4) will need to head on over to the PS Store via their home screen, while Xbox users (XBX, XBS, and XB1) will need to head over to the Microsoft Store.

Make Sure to Download MW3 and Not Warzone

Since Warzone is free-to-play (F2P), make sure you search for MW3 and not Warzone. If you download Warzone instead of MW3, you will need to do an additional download to get MW3 via the COD HQ app.

PC Players Download via Steam and Battle.Net

PC players will be able to download and play MW3 by finding the game on their chosen launcher applications. Steam users will need to search for the MW3 store page to get the free download, while Battle.Net users can simply access the game via the home-screen banner.

The free weekend will also include access to the new MW3 Zombies game mode. When playing Zombies, you will be dropped off in the new Urzikstan map where you and your squad will be free to explore for 40 minutes.

Complete missions to gain essence to purchase weapons, Perk Colas, and Pack-a-Punch upgrades. Use these upgrades to explore the difficult Red Zone at the center of the map. Once 40 minutes are up, exfil with your loot before the Aether Storm rolls in and consumes Urzikstan.

Players logging in for the free weekend will be able to play the revamped MW3 Multiplayer across 9 different maps. The map pool includes returning favorites like Terminal, Highrise, Shipment, Rust, and Meat, as well as a new MW3 S2 map called Stash House.

There will be 5 game modes available during the free Season 1 access period including Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and MW3 S2's new Team Gun Game.

Experience the New Ground War Game Mode

Ground War was reworked from previous Call of Duty titles, turning it from a mishmash of different team-based game modes to a 64-player Domination match that increased the number of capture points to 5.

Play during the free weekend to experience a much larger battlefield while still staying true to the Multiplayer experience and gunplay offered by recent Call of Duty titles.
