When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
The best IVs for Edelgard are +Atk and -Res. Her Atk is a superboon, which means it gives her +4 Atk at Lv.40. Her weapon allows her to guarantee follow-up attacks so she does not rely on Spd that much. Her already low Res stat is ideal for a bane.

This build uses refined Victorious Axe to emulate Valentine's Edelgard using regular Edelgard. Haze Slice and Momentum allow her to easily pre-charge her Special to deal quick burst damage.

| Updated on 05/19/2025 | |
This build aims at dealing massive damage with Blazing Wind, using Emblem Marth ring and Momentum to pre-charge it before every combat. Tempo Echo reduces her foe's damage reduction so Edelgard can deal the last few points of damage necessary for a knockout.

This budget build uses cheap alternatives to emulate the AoE build above.
| Exclusive Weapon Effect from Refining (Special Effect Type) | |
|---|---|
| SP: 400 | |
| Might: 16 Range: 1 HP: 3 Accelerates Special trigger (cooldown count-1). At start of combat, if unit's HP ≥ 25% or if the number of foes within 2 spaces (excluding target) ≥ the number of allies within 2 spaces (excluding unit), grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+4 unit makes a guaranteed follow-up attack during combat. If unit initiates combat or is not adjacent to an ally, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+4 to unit during combat and deals damage = 10% of unit's Atk (including when dealing damage with a Special triggered before combat). If unit initiates and unit is not adjacent to any ally after combat, grants another action to unit (once per turn if a skill effect moves unit after combat, this effect occurs based on unit's final placement after that movement). |
|
Victorious Axe now grants her Atk/Spd/Def/Res+4 compared to the previous version of the Axe which before only grants a follow-up attack during combat. Additionally, the refine buffs her further with an additional Atk/Spd/Def/Res+4 on combat initiation.
Other than that, and arguably the main highlight of her refine, is the new built-in Galeforce effect that triggers as long as she initiates combat or if there are no adjacent allies after combat. She can use this effect at least once during combat.

Note: Stats bonuses from skills are not taken into account.
Edelgard is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage she deals will be equivalent to her Atk minus the foe's Def stat.
Edelgard's exclusive weapon, the Victorious Axe, accelerates special trigger by -1 and guarantees follow-up attacks if the number of foes 2 spaces of Edelgard is more than the number of allies in the same space.
This guaranteed follow-up attack further speeds-up the activation of Luna which significantly boosts Edelgard's offensive firepower.
When refined, Victorious Axe now grants her Atk/Spd/Def/Res+4 compared to the previous version of the Axe which before only grants a follow-up attack during combat.
In addition to the conditional effects of Victorious Axe, Rouse Atk/Def 3 grants Edelgard +6 Atk/Def if she is not adjacent to an ally at the start of the turn. Atk/Def Solo 3 grants another additional +6 Atk/Def if she is not adjacent to allies in combat.
Both those add up to +12 Atk/Def with a potential guaranteed follow-up attack that is charged up by Luna. The trigger conditions are pretty easy to meet, and require little to no strategy, making Edelgard a very straightforward and easy to use but powerful offensive character.
Edelgard's Res is only 21 at Lv.40. This makes her very weak against powerful red magic users such as Sothis and Fallen Julia. Be mindful of Edelgard's positioning in relation to the units that pose a threat to her.

Edelgard can be used to inherit the skills Atk/Def Solo 3 and Rouse Atk/Def 3. These skills aren't good in today's metagame anymore. Edelgard is better off used as a unit with refined Victorious Axe.

It's hard to believe that this vanilla Edelgard is rated the same as winter Edelgard, both 9.0 now. 🤨
