The Lost Child picks up where Chapter Noctoyager 1 left off. The Phoxhunter wakes up under the care of Camilla, who rescued them from the masked assailant at the end of On a Gentle Breeze.
During the cutscene, Camilla tells you about the time you were unconscious and informs you that Officer Rhythm Fischer left a message for the Phoxhunter, requesting a meeting about a recent murder case.

Make your way out of the Sanctuary to find out more information about the recent murder.

Go to The Asphodel where you will run into Outsider and Snow.
Approach Outsider first to begin the next cutscene. He and Snow will check in on your condition after the attack and warn you that Rhythm has been waiting for you to wake up.

When the cutscene ends, talk to Rhythm at Outsider's suggestion.
Rhythm will reveal that she is currently investigating a series of Charon murders. The incidents have been collectively labeled the Charon Hunt. As the sole survivor, the Phoxhunter will be an asset to the investigation.
Outsider will convince you to agree to help the Escort in order to stop the murderer from killing any more Charons.

Leave the Asphodel and follow Rhythm to the city gates. Follow the quest marker and use the Wall Jump to scale the wall of the rampart and onto the top where it's quiet.
Rhythm will tell you about the details regarding the Charon Hunt. The next step will be the investigate the site of the attack that left the Phoxhunter injured and unconscious.
After the discussion with Rhythm, jump down to the street where the attack took place in the previous Noctoyager quest.

Begin investigating the crime scene. During the investigation, you will obtain the following clues that are essential to making progress in the investigation:

Submit the clue Estimated Time of Attack—4 to 5 a.m. to proceed with the investigation and to start collecting other clues.
When you have collected all of the clues, talk to Rhythm. The spots of Phoxicor will trigger her memory. She will ask the Phoxhunter if they noticed a pungent smell during the night of the attack. The Phoxhunter will recall that they did, resulting in a new clue being unlocked: Assailant's Heavily Stained with Phoxicor.

After talking to Rhythm, combine the Assailant's Heavily Stained with Phoxicor clue with other clues to find the perpetrator's hideout. First, figure out which way the assailant fled and make your first educated guess as to where they could be hiding now.

Combine the following clues:
Combining the two clues will result in a new one: Assembled Vane Indicates Southwest Escape Route. Select the clue again and submit it.

Talk to Rhythm to discuss what you just deduced. Report back to her to unlock another clue: Extended Search Zone in the Southwest: Factory ・Homes ・Schools.

Combine the following clues to make your first guess as to where the assailant might be hiding:
Combining the two clues will result in a new one: Galea Theatre—Possible Hideout. Select the clue again and submit it.

Combine the following cloes to make your second guess on the assailant's hideout.
Combining these clues will result in a new one: Factory—Possible Hideout, Select the clue again and submit it.
Talk to Rhythm. This will conclude the initial investigation. You, Outsider, and Snow will split off from Rhythm to investigate the Galea Theatre. Rhythm will investigate the Factory.

Go to Galea Theatre. If you have already unlocked the Galea Theatre Avian Tower during the A New Theatrical Experience Special Side Quest, you can teleport there directly.
Otherwise, you can teleport to either the Hypnos House or the Sanctuary to get there faster.

As soon as you make it past the lobby, a voice will call out to you.
Go up to Putsch and talk to her. She is an acquaintance from Outsider and is overseeing the day's rehearsals. She will allow you to proceed with your investigation.

Jump onto the stage and go backstage to your right to talk to the props master while she is taking inventory.
The props master will examine the cloth you picked up at the site of the incident and insist that the quality of the cloth does not match the troupe's standards.
When she leaves read the log found on one of the drawers right next to where the props master was standing.

Move on to Violetta. She can be found at the front of the stage instructing the performers.
The anxious performer being instructed by her will reveal that no one from the troupe has stepped out of the theatre since rehearsals began.

To verify the performer's statement, follow the quest marker to the attendance sheet stuck to the wall. The logs will confirm that no one has left the theatre for an entire month.
You, Outsider, and Snow decide to investigate elsewhere.

Leave Galea Theatre to report back to Rhythm. She will show you canisters of Phoxicor covered in fish oil.
Based on the clues she lays out for you, deduce the occupation of the most likely suspect. The correct answer is a fisherman.
Since most of Icelake's fishermen live in Mist Aken, the four of you decide to find the suspect there.

Run or teleport to Mist Aken and knock on one of the doors. A cat will come by to grab your attention by meowing. Follow the cat.

The cat will lead you to the fisherman hiding behind a building right before the Mist Aken entrance to the sewers. Your group will interrogate the panicking fisherman. However, he will only confess to stealing Phoxicor canisters and has no real involvement in the Charon Hunt.
In order to lighten his sentence, he will provide valuable information about the murders. He will reveal that he witnessed the Phoxhunter 's attacker: a monster that emerged out of the sewers.

To go to the Security Bureau, go to Icelake Suburban Square and follow the quest marker to the area where the sentinel are standing on guard.
Go over the recent developments with Rhythm. By the end of the cutscene, the four of you will have decided to go down to the sewers to find the monster.
