List of Contents
| Starting Team Composition | ||
|---|---|---|
| Main DPS | Support | Sub-DPS |
Rebecca
|
Phoxhunter
|
Berenica
|

A few characters will be available very early on in the game. Phoxhunter is available from the start, and Margie, Rebecca, and Berenica all become deployable shortly after the prologue. Rebecca is a great starting main.
Rebecca is proficient in Polearms, one of which you'll unlock at the start of the first chapter. Her skills are excellent at dealing with large mobs, which is perfect as you'll be dealing mostly with common enemies early on in the story and when you're farming leveling materials.

In this team, Phoxhunter will constantly be providing Ultra Shields, which go above your maximum shield total. Additionally, she grants the whole team Incandescence, a buff that raises Weapon DMG.
And to round out the team, Berenica is another source of reliable DPS (damage per second). This is especially important as Rebecca's summons are slow and stationary. Having her already high Weapon DMG be boosted by Phoxhunter is another plus.

Truffle and Filbert
|

As you face more bosses and stronger common enemies, Rebecca will continue to scale well into the mid-game. Her consistent DoT (damage over time) capabilities, strong summons, and powerful Ultimate skill do well against both large mobs and singular bosses.

Truffle and Filbert are an excellent healer unit on top of providing buffs to the team with their skill Trotters Trot-Trot. Their Intron Level 2 also provides additional Attack boosts to her team, furthering her buffing capacity. They can be slotted as teammates for any character, so feel free to use them with either Rebecca, Lisbell, or any of your DPS characters.
You can grab Truffle and Filbert for free as a reward in Go, Geniemons!

|---|---|---|

Lisbell
|
Phoxhunter
|
Daphne
|

Lisbell is a strong Lumino DPS character that has excellent AoE (area of effect) damage output and a straightforward playstyle surrounding her Consonance Weapon, Samael.
Lisbell's shards are available as rewards in Mystic Maze's first three difficulty levels. Her best weapon, the Wanewraith, is also given as a reward for the third phase of the Beginner's Guide in the Combat Menu, making her a worthy and easy addition to your roster as a 2nd DPS for game modes like the Immersive Theatre.

Daphne is another excellent healer whose kit centers around debuffing enemy units and crowd control. At Intron Level 1, she is able to also provide a general damage boost to the entire party by 10%. Just like Filbert and Truffle, she can be slotted as a teammate for any character.
She can be obtained by finishing the Chapter 2 Noctoyager 1's The Overlookers or through a Secret Letter bought in the Covert Commissions shop at Trial Rank 25.

Tabethe is another great addition alongside Rebecca and Phoxhunter. Her being a Hydro character synergizes well with Rebecca, and all their summons together can flood and control the battlefield. Furthermore, she provides the party with a boost to Skill DMG, which Rebecca can greatly take advantage of.
Do keep in mind that her Secret Letters are only available as a reward in the Level 50 Nocturnal Echoes Sybille boss fight, which you can farm for only 5 times a week.
Nocturnal Echoes and Weekly Bosses Guide

As you bring teammates with you, you can maximize their support potential by giving them Demon Wedges that buff the team.
At this point in the game, there are two recommended Purple rarity Demon Wedges you should each give to your two supports: Prime • Serenity or Prime • Uplift. The latter will restore the team's Sanity by 7 points and the former will increase their damage dealt by 11%.
| Late-Game Team Composition | ||
|---|---|---|
| Main DPS | Sub-DPS | Support |
Phantasio
|
Berenica
|
Tabethe
|

Phantasio is one of the best single-target DPS characters for the late game. His Ultimate skill Bestial Fury deals tremendous damage output, making him a top-tier pick in the roster as a reliable boss killer.
Phantasio can only be obtained via Secret Letters obtained in the Level 80 Nocturnal Echoes “Beast from the Snowfield” weekly boss fight, which might mean that it will take a while before you can use him. You can continue building Rebecca and Lisbell in the meantime, or invest in other high tier characters that fit your playstyle.

Berenica and Phantasio go great together, as the two Umbro characters can both benefit from an Umbro-buffing Geniemon. Berenica, at high levels, also provides a damage buff to all Umbro characters in the party. She's also one of the best DPS characters in the game, so her extra damage output will be appreciated.
In this team, Tabethe provides some much-needed crowd control as her summons can immobilize enemy units. Plus, her party-wide Skill DMG buff will make Phantasio's skills all the more potent.
Unlike the mid-game team, Truffle and Filbert and Daphne are the second choices for the Support slot as Tabethe edges them out for this team specifically. If you decide to invest in Truffle and Filbert or Daphne first over Tabethe for their ability to slot into almost any team, go for it.
| Weapon DMG | Skill DMG |
DPS characters provide your party's main source of offense, specializing in dealing massive damage despite potentially being more fragile than others. There are two kinds of DPS specialisations: Weapon DMG and Skill DMG.
Outsider |
Berenica |
Lynn |
Psyche |
Lisbell |
Weapon DMG characters rely on basic attacks and racking up the combo counter to deal sustained damage. This means that matching weapon proficiencies is especially important for them.
Some characters take advantage of this specialization even further by wielding Consonance Weapons, special weapons that they can summon with their skills, transforming their basic attack and significantly improving its output.
Margie |
Rhythm |
Yale and Oliver |
Hellfire |
Phantasio |
Sibylle |
Rebecca |
Psyche |
Lady Nifle |
Skill DMG characters dole out immense damage with their activated skills. These characters rely on properly rotating skills, timing cooldowns, and managing sanity, the resource used for activating skills.
Some skills scale off of specific stats like maximum HP and DEF, not just ATK, so it's best to equip these characters and their weapons with Demon Wedges that raise those attributes.
Phoxhunter |
Randy |
Daphne |
Tabethe |
Truffle and Filbert |
Fina |
Support characters are essential in Duet Night Abyss. While they may not pack the same punch as DPS characters, they play a vital role in your team, protecting your damage-dealers and keeping enemies at bay.
These characters' skills are centered around keeping your other characters alive. This is done primarily through healing, shielding, and crowd control.

Your party can have up to three members at a time—your character plus two summoned Combat Partners. Your combat partners and their equipment will retain the level you've left them at and will not scale with your deployed character.
As DPS characters are your main source of damage, you'll want to have one of them deployed instead of the Phoxhunter, a support character. You cannot direct combat partners to focus on certain enemies or activate skills on command, so it's best to have your main be the one dealing out damage.

Next to you, it would be best to have one support character and a DPS or crowd control character. This is because common enemies, despite being simple to deal with, can reach overwhelming capacity, especially during ∞ Commissions.
More importantly, choose characters who synergize well with your main. For example, one of Outsider's skills drains his own HP, so it would be best to pair him with a Healing character like Daphne.
