Can You Change Gender?
You Cannot Change Gender
When you first start up the game, the choice for the gender of your main character will be given to you immediately.
Upon choosing one of the main characters as your protagonist, the chosen main character will be your main character for the Chapter Noctoyager.
You will still be able to play the other main character as your protagonist in the Chapter Twilight.
Difference in Main Characters
Appearance and Voice
Being a different character, each character has a different voice with a feminine voice for the female phoxhunter and a masculine voice for the male phoxhunter. Generally speaking, as the main characters, they will look identical for story-related reasons.

Difference in Clothing
One major difference between the protagonists is that the Female Phoxhunter is wearing a skirt, while the Male Phoxhunter is wearing pants. The rest of their clothing is similar, such as the huge cloak and the eyepatch.
Does Gender Affect the Story?
Gender Has No Major Story Impact
Regardless of whether you pick the Female or Male MC, it will not have any major impact towards the game's story. Instead, there'll only be minor dialogue changes depending on the gender you picked for your main character.
Does Gender Affect Gameplay?
MC Gender Does Not Affect Gameplay
The gender of the main characters are purely preferential and will not give any certain advantages or disadvantages to the gameplay.
Feel free to choose any of your preferred main character without hesitation.
Which Protagonist Should You Pick?
Choose What You Prefer
The only difference that your choice would yield is the main character that will be present in the cutscenes and the dialogue change, using pronouns respective of the main character's gender.
The answer to which protagonist you should pick is ultimately your choice! There are no siginificant impact in the story or gameplay!

For anyone starting the game and wondering who to pick as the protagonist. I don't recommend picking the male protagonist... His voice is absolutely awful and doesn't fit the character at all.
