You can get Characters in Duet Night Abyss (DNA) for free through commissions, quests, or from certain rewards. Learn how to get characters, how to unlock characters, and the best characters to get first in this guide!
List of Contents

The main way to unlock characters in Duet Night Abyss is by farming the Covert Commissions for character thoughts. You can unlock the commission after completing the side quest Go, Geniemons!
To get the thoughts of specific characters, you will have to use Secret Letters, which decides a Covert Commission's reward pool. These can be obtained by exchanging Secret Letter: Clues in the shop for character-specific Secret Letters.

If you don't want to spend hours grinding for a specific character, you can instead choose to buy them using Phoxene Plumules, the game's premium currency.
A total of 4500 Phoxene Plumules is required to get unlock a character.
You can also choose to just buy a specific number of character thoughts through the in-game shop if you're missing a few to unlock a character. Each character Thought costs 150 Phoxene Plumules.

Another way to get characters in Duet Night Abyss is by progressing through the game's main quests. Margie, for example, can be obtained just by finishing the prologue.

Some events reward players with Character Thoughts or their Secret Letters, which you can use to farm Covert Commissions.
For example, completing stages I-IV of the Mysic Maze rewards players with Thoughts for Lisbell via the Restless Hum rewards. Immersive Theatre, on the other hand, grants Secret Letters for the game's newest character, along with their signature weapon.
List of All Events and Schedule
As there are no Gacha mechanics for unlocking characters in Duet Night Abyss, the main way to get characters in the game now is by farming a character's thoughts.
There are specific thoughts for each character, and you need to farm 30 of them to unlock the characters through a method called Reminiscence. There are many ways you can get thoughts, but they are mainly obtained through commissions.
Lady Nifle

| Element |
Lumino
|
|||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Role | DPS / Skill Damage | |||||||
Lady Nifle is one of the best characters to unlock first. Although she is not as strong early on, she becomes a DPS machine at Intron Lv. 6 thanks to her ability to trigger her active skill with her ranged weapon.
She can be useful even without I6, but you will need to manage her sanity issues by supplementing her with Sanity-related buffs.
Psyche
|
||||||||
| Element |
Anemo
|
|||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Role | DPS / Consonance Weapon / Weapon DMG / Skill DMG | |||||||
Psyche is another DPS powerhouse that can deal huge ranged damage with her Consonance Weapon, all while hovering in the air away from all the danger.
Lynn
|
||||||||
| Element |
Pyro
|
|||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Role | DPS / Consonance Weapon / Weapon DMG | |||||||
Lynn is a ranged weapon specialist best known for her ultimate ability. This grants her access to her Consonance Weapon that deals extremely high amounts of damage to everything on the screen, all at the cost of losing all mobility while the skill is active.
Like Lady Nifle, Lynn's true power is unleashed at Intron Lv. 6, so it will likely be a long journey of gathering enough Thoughts. Still, she definitely packs a punch and is usable even without her I6 buff.
Fina
|
||||||||
| Element |
Lumino
|
|||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Role | Support | |||||||
Fina is the best offensive support for any character that relies on dealing weapon damage, Consonance Weapon users included. This is because Fina grants bonus elemental weapon damage to her party, as well as some PEN and straight-up damage to aid her team.
Fina herself can also be built as a weapon damage-oriented DPS threat at I6, while still offering her allies the buffs that make her special.
Tabethe
|
||||||||
| Element |
Hydro
|
|||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Role | Support / Summon / Crowd Control | |||||||
Tabethe offers the party potent buffs to their Skill DMG, which is perfect for any characters that primarily deal Skill DMG instead of Weapon DMG. This makes her the best offensive support for any Skill DMG-oriented character like Lady Nifle and Phantasio.
