The Wandering LunoSide Quest

Early into Chapter One, shortly after you make your way to Icelake, you will unlock the side quest The Wandering Luno. Here, you'll meet Lunosmith, who, after a brief conversation and a couple of dialogue choices, will set up shop in the Sanctuary.
As part of the side quest, Lunosmith will give you a blueprint and the materials required to complete the project. This will allow you to craft the Flamme de Epuration, a flamethrower-style ranged weapon. From hereon, the Forge mechanic will be permanently unlocked.

Aside from pre-determined main questline rewards, forging is Duet Night Abyss' primary way of unlocking new weapons. To get new weapons, however, you must first acquire that weapon's blueprint. The Wandering Luno will reward you with the Flamme de Epuration ranged weapon blueprint.
Weapon blueprints can be obtained by completing Covert Commissions while using Secret Letters, which in turn can be purchased from the shop or obtained as quest rewards. Blueprints are not guaranteed to drop, so it may require a few attempts.
The full list of blueprints is viewable via the Blueprints Compendium in the lower-right corner of the Forge menu.
While the source or acquisition method for each blueprint isn't shown, you will be able to see each item's forging procedure, cost, and wait time. This is displayed in the form of a tree showing the components required for the item along with the basic materials needed to forge each one.

Each weapon has a forging cost, requiring a combination of basic materials, weapon components, and coins in addition to the blueprint.
Basic forging materials and coins can be collected from fallen enemies or be obtained as quest and commission rewards. Meanwhile, weapon components can be obtained via Mediation Commissions. Additionally, components of Intermediate and Advanced rarity obtained as Covert Commission rewards or be crafted at the Forge using coins and basic components.

The next step is going to the Forge. The Forge is accessible via the pause menu or by going to the Sanctuary and interacting with Lunosmith.

Forging weapons and higher-value items also require you to wait before they're done being crafted. Thankfully, you can use Toy Hammers to bypass this wait time.
Toy Hammers can be purchased from the Prism tab in the Shop. A pack of 2 costs 1 Lucent Prism, which you can get from the Myriad store. Each Toy Hammer can skip up to 10 minutes of waiting.

The Forge is essential for crafting materials and consumables, not just weapons. Thankfully, most basic items are already craftable from the start without needing you to hunt down their blueprints.
Higher-rarity items, on the other hand, will become available in the Forge as you naturally progress through the story and reach higher levels. In some cases however, like with cosmetics, you will have to unlock the blueprint via Lunoeggy's Impressions Shop.

The basic crafting ingredients for items are typically easier to come by compared to the forging components of weapons. For these raw materials, you will organically accrue a ton of resources just from completing quests, opening chests, and defeating enemies.
Higher rarity materials for more powerful versions of consumables can also be crafted within the forge itself.

Once the Forge is accessed through the Sanctuary or the main pause menu, you can find separate tabs for the different types of craftable items: Demon Wedges, Materials, and Accessories.

The wait times for forging items are significantly shorter than for weapons, so it's unlikely for you to need Toy Hammers. Most items in the early game can be forged instantly, with only a few requiring a wait of 10-15 minutes per batch. Regardless, Toy Hammers can still be used to eliminate the wait.
