The AK-74 is the best well-rounded, hard-hitting Assault Rifle. Though its fire rate is not as fast as others, it makes up for it with high damage, being able to kill a target in 4-5 torso shots at up to 25mm. It is one of the easier guns to unlock, and is definitely one of the most accessible guns for new players along with the XM4.
Players with run-and-gun playstyles and utilizing the Enforcer class are welcome to have this weapon in their hands, especially with the Rapid Fire mod and other recoil control attachments. When engaging enemies at mid-range, players can also easily tap-fire this gun for better accuracy.

The XM4 is your starting Assault Rifle and is also one of the most versatile weapons in the game. It has a respectable high fire rate, great base recoil control, and is suitable for both close and long-range combat.
An XM4 can be fitted with a 100-round drum mag (Extended Mag III), can perform well within close quarters with a Light Stock and Rapid Fire, and will do great at long range fights with a 7x zoom scope and Recoil Springs. This gun is always welcome in any specialist's loadout.

The AS VAL is the best high fire rate, low recoil Assault Rifle you can have, and it's unlocked at the end of the Progression Tree (Level 55). When kitted out for maximum recoil control, it becomes an intimidating force at close-quarters.
It is also conveniently one of the best weapons for Recon-specialist players since each Barrel attachment already comes with an integrated suppressor, giving them stat benefits beyond simply hiding their firing position on the minimap.
