Using Shotguns against the Doppelghasts is really effective as you are more or less guaranteed to hit all the pellets because of how big the Doppelghasts are, making them the ideal bullet sponge for Shotguns.
Preferably, you would use a Pack-a-Punched ASG-89 with the Rapid Fire Fire Mod for the most optimal amount of damage per second.
It is easy to miss your shots and waste precious ammo on a Doppelghasts while it is dodging. Take your time and wait for Doppelghasts to dodge before unloading your magazine on them.
Doppelghasts can get stunned by the Dead Wire Ammo Mod proc, similar to how regular Zombies get stunned. Doppelghasts also take extra damage from Dead Wire if you have it equipped, as well as from other Ammo Mods, but they only get stunned by Dead Wire.
Although the Doppelghasts' ranged attack does not deal that much damage, it could easily get you swarmed because it slows your movement down a lot. There will be a squealing audio queue before the Doppelghasts do their ranged attack.
Be sure to put distance between you and the Doppelghasts when they die. They will explode a few seconds after dying, and its area of effect will slow your movement down, similar to their ranged attack. If you do not see the explosion indicated anymore, then you should be safe.
