The best way to farm Essence is to get critical kills in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (BO6) Zombies Mode. Read on to learn more about how to farm Essence and where to spend them!
Method | Essence Gained |
---|---|
Critical Kills | ★★★★★ 115 Essence per kill |
Loose Change | ★★★☆☆ 800 total per game |
Bonus Points Powerup | ★★★☆☆ 500 per hit; random spawn |
Double Points Powerup | ★★★★★ Doubles Essence gain for limited time; random spawn |
Pool Table Easter Egg (Liberty Falls) | ★★☆☆☆ 100 Essence per game |
Vending Machine Easter Egg (Liberty Falls) | ★★☆☆☆ Potentially 100 per round; random spawn |
You can earn more Essence per kill by shooting the Zombies in the head for the killing blow. This will net you Critical Kills and give you 25 Bonus Essence per kill. This is the fastest and most reliable way of farming essence.
You can prone in front of Perk Machines and get 100 Essence per machine. You can get a total of 800 Essence for proning in front of all the machines.
Bonus Points |
Powerups give you and your teammates temporary bonus effects. The Bonus Points Powerup grants everyone extra Essence. You can find these Powerups as glowing green items on the ground after killing zombies, so keep an eye out!
Double Points |
Make sure to collect the Double Points powerup before getting continuous critical kills on hordes of Zombies in order to effectively double the Essence you obtain.
Once per game, you can shoot the balls on the pool table at Fuller's Liberty Lanes to get a quick 100 Essence.

Once per round, you can crouch and melee the vending machine on the left by the Motor Lodge (spawn area), and there is a chance for it to drop 100 Essence.
Note: The vending machine's hitbox is a bit finicky. Move around while crouching and meleeing it until you find the sweet spot.
Essence is the main resource in Zombies mode that can be gained by killing Zombies. Essence is essential for progressing through the game and pushing to higher rounds, as it allows players to purchase various upgrades and resources.
You can spend Essence to buy wall guns that are not from your loadout at a higher rarity or try your luck on the Mystery Box that moves around the map to potentially get a Wonder Weapon.
Best Zombies Guns and Weapons Tier List
Essence is used to buy Perks, which greatly improve your survivability and damage output — these are crucial for pushing through higher rounds.
Spending Essence to Pack-a-Punch and increase the damage output of your weapons is a must, as Zombies get much stronger as you progress through the rounds. It is extremely hard to keep up with Zombies without Pack-a-Punching.
It is important to have enough Essence in stock to replenish your ammo at Ammo Caches as it is quite a scarce resource in this iteration of Zombies because of the lower chances of getting Max Ammo.
Spending Essence to open up the areas in Terminus and Liberty Falls is a necessity, as you cannot even progress far enough to get your Pack-a-Punch and other Perks without doing this. This is also needed to progress the story and easter eggs of the two maps.
