Char's Zaku II Analysis

Highly Accessible Evasive Melee Fighter

Char's Zaku II, commonly referred to as CharKu II, is probably the 2nd best mobile suit that players can earn and get to the maximum Potential Level for free via Fragment Quests. It's not nearly as good as the Gundam Full Armor (Thunderbolt), but it's a good starting unit for when you don't have a melee fighter yet.

Its biggest selling point is that it's extremely easy to acquire and get to its highest Potential Level. This is because Blueprints of this MS can be acquired from the Arena Shop. With consistent fragment farming and using your Arena Medals for CharKu fragments, this MS should be one of the first few mobile suits you get to Potential Unleashed Lv. 5.

Its EX skill deals 502% ATK damage to a single target while also stunning it for 7 seconds. It's a rather straightforward EX skill, but stunning the opponent and preventing them from attacking for an entire 7 seconds goes a long way.

Its regular skills include a permanent 18% projectile damage buff, as well as two stacking buffs on evade. The first increases movement speed by 11% per stack (max 55%), while the other increases projectile damage by 14% per stack (max 70%). One issue with this MS, however, is that it can't access its buffs reliably without Transcending, since that's where its only evasion skills lie.

One thing to take note of is that the CharKu is a Raid unit with two melee weapons instead of just one. That said, it's much better at melee combat than most other Raid units, as the majority of these surprisingly only have 1. It'll be able to capitalize more on those close-range opportunities, and its movement speed buffs also help it spend less time traveling toward opponents.

Transcending Unlocks Third Weapon, Evasion Buffs

Transcending this MS unlocks its Third Weapon, greatly improving its weapon rotation. It also earns a permanent 25% evasion buff, and a 50% evasion buff that stays active for as long as it stays at full health. It's very evasive right when battle begins, but quickly loses a big portion of its evasion stat once it takes any form of damage, and isn't healed back to full HP by a healer.

Potential Unleashed, on the other hand, is also very important on this MS as it increases the stun duration and the ATK potency. Luckily, it's very easy to get to Potential Lv. 5 for reasons we've already discussed.

The CharKu is the 2nd best Fragment Quest unit not because it's a great unit, but because it's an average mobile suit in a pool of terrible mobile suits. It's not the best melee fighter, nor is it a good mobile suit when compared to the game's meta units, but it's a serviceable and easily upgradeable mobile suit that can take up a slot in your roster until you can find a better replacement.

Char's C0048 version gives his Zaku II two ranged sense buffs, increasing the damage dealt by his machine gun attacks. More importantly, he grants two melee sense buffs that add up to 70%, as well as a 10% evasion boost that brings the duo's maximum total evasion to 85%.

While Char is the CharKu II's signature pilot, do note that there are plenty of better pilots who grant even more melee sense and/or evasion for this mobile suit.
