RX-78F00 HMT Gundam High Mobility Type Analysis

Crit-Based Bombardment Unit

The RX-78F00 HMT Gundam High Mobility Type, commonly referred to as "Crit Gundam" and "Crit Gramps" by the community, is a Bombardment mobile suit best known for its extremely high crit rate, valued at 94% when fully Transcended.

Its EX skill is a rather straightforward ability that deals 644% ATK damage to a single targeted enemy unit, while also increasing its own beam damage by 60% for 20 seconds. This EX skill can be fired off early into the match considering that this mobile suit gets to start matches with its EX gauge already halfway filled, though you’ll need to fully Transcend this unit if you want the benefits of this buff.

As for its weaponry, it’s equipped with three powerful six-hit weapons that can not only deal huge amounts of beam and crit damage, but speed up its EX gauge recovery as well.

Its Skill 1 increases its beam damage by 22% for the entire match, while its Skill 2 grants 2 conditional buffs that stay active for as long as it stays above a specific health threshold. When at max health, it benefits from a 58% critical rate buff, while staying at or above 80% max HP increases its beam damage by 58%. This 58% critical rate buff is crucial for it to deal big damage, so protecting this unit should be of utmost importance.

Makes More Crits When Transcended

Fully Transcending this mobile suit grants it 25% more accuracy, a 36% higher critical rate, and the ability to start matches with its EX gauge already halfway filled.

All three Transcendent Skills are great for different reasons. Accuracy allows it to be somewhat capable of dealing with evasive mobile suits, while the crit rate buff, when combined with the other one from its Skill 2, adds up to a whopping 94%, dramatically increasing its overall damage output. Meanwhile, the 50% EX gauge restoration skill allows it to benefit from its 60% beam damage buff much earlier in the game, while also dealing a good burst of damage. This is especially useful in PvP as matches here tend to last only a few seconds and every second matters.

Potential Unleashed increases both the damage and the buff potency of its EX Skill, so you’ll want that when available as well. However, it doesn’t really rely on its EX Skill for combat, so you could get away with using this MS without it. Do note, however, that the 60% beam damage buff when you’ve fully unleashed its potential is a very potent buff that you might not want to miss out on.

Strengths and Critical Weaknesses

With the highly anticipated arrival of the crit rework comes the crit and Ez8 meta. The Ez8 is now king with only less than a handful of mobile suits matching its value. The RX-78F00 HMT fights like an Ez8-buffed Bombardment unit, and players can emulate the high damage outputs of such a unit with this mobile suit, thanks to its ability to reach near 100% crit rate even without its signature pilot. If you don’t have an Ez8, getting this mobile suit should provide you with a great PvE unit and a usable PvP unit.

The RX-78F00 HM biggest weakness as an Arena unit is that once it gets damaged by even just 1 HP, it loses 58% of its crit rate. This is really bad, especially in a meta dominated by the Zeong, which can use its AoE EX skill quickly and damage the RX-78F00 HMT very early in the match. The Zeong has a type advantage over the RX-78F00 HMT too, so it’s well capable of one-shotting this unit. Char’s Z’Gok, another popular meta unit, allows its entire team to prioritize targeting Gundam-Type units first, which poses a huge risk to the Gundam High Mobility Type.

It’s much easier to keep this unit protected in PvE game modes than in PvP, which is why it’s better in those specific game modes. However, if you can manage to somehow keep this unit protected, there’s a big chance that it’ll go ham on whoever you match up with in the Arena.

With the duo together, the RX-78F00 HMT benefits from a total of 126% critical rate, and 68% when below max HP. 68% isn’t max, but it’s definitely better than just the 36% it’s left with when paired with a different pilot.

Amuro also grants this MS two stacking ranged sense buffs on dealing damage that each max out at 150%. By the time the RX-78F00 HMT finishes using its 2nd weapon, it’ll already have 300% more ranged sense, making its third weapon even deadlier.
