Char's Gelgoog Analysis

Support That Strengthens Other Melee Allies

Char's Gelgoog is a melee-oriented Close Combat mobile suit known mainly for its ability to increase the damage cap on Raid and Close Combat allies by 200,000, as well as buff its entire team's melee damage by up to 25% for the first 20 seconds of combat. Other melee-oriented mobile suits like the Titania, Banshee Norn, Char's Zaku II, and Banshee NT-D. Moreover, because the max damage cap isn't restricted to just melee damage, powerful Raid mobile suits with just 1 melee weapon like the Purple Sazabi and the Varguil variants can also benefit from this.

All these buffs are activated when Char's Gelgoog fires off its EX skill, which also deals a good chunk of single-target damage amounting to 563% of its ATK. This EX skill can be fired off rather quickly thanks to it having 3 skills that affect the EX gauge. The first of which is a Transcendent skill that grants 50% EX gauge when the battle begins, allowing allies to reap the benefits of the buffs sooner rather than later. Next is Skill 2 which increases EX gauge recovery by 46%. Finally, on dealing damage, Char's Gelgoog also restores 2.2% of its EX gauge. The EX skill can be fired off around the first 5 seconds of combat when fully Transcended, and then around every 10 seconds.

This means that more or less, Raid allies, Close Combat allies, and all melee damage will be buffed for the majority of the entire match, provided Char's Gelgoog doesn't die too early in a long battle.

Strong Melee Fighter

Outside of its supportive capabilities, Char's Gelgoog is also quite powerful on its own, as it can decimate its opponents from close range with its 2 beam naginatas, buffed with a 36% beam damage increase, stacking proximity damage buffs that max out at 70%, and a 25% accuracy buff. It also has a beam rifle that it can use from mid-range, but that's not really very special. It's up there in terms of damage as one of the harder-hitting mobile suits, but it's not quite on par with the likes of the Yellow and Purple Sazabi or the Zeta Gundam.

Overall, Char's Gelgoog is a powerful Close Combat mobile suit that you should consider pulling for, especially if you have good Close Combat or Raid mobile suits that can benefit from the buffs Char's Gelgoog brings to the table. It might just be currently the hardest-hitting Close Combat mobile suit in the game. However, PvP-wise, the Titania is still the king of its category because of how it can take over battles like The-O used to do very often.

More Powerful When Transcended

Char's Gelgoog, like a lot of other mobile suits, becomes much better when fully Transcended. Its only accuracy and beam damage buffs come from Transcendent skills, and the 50% EX gauge that it gets at the start of the battle is a game changer, especially for PvP. Finally, its own damage cap buff is locked behind Transcendent Lv. 5, and you'll definitely want that if you want this MS to perform to the best of its ability.
