Messer Type F01 Analysis

Tank That Draws Enemy Aggro

The Messer is a lot like the Rick Dom (Thunderbolt), in the sense that they're both Armored units that use the Provoke status effect to force all enemies to attack it for the first 8 seconds of combat. This unit is typically positioned somewhere far from the enemy team where its enemies will have to chase it and waste time, leaving them open to being attacked by the Messer Type's teammates. That said, this unit is best paired with allies who can take advantage of that small window where they can freely rain down attacks on the provoked enemies.

Just like with the Rick Dom TB, this unit's Provoke will override the Target Focus status effect, so when facing a Char's Z'gok, the Messer Type F01 will be able to protect your Gundam-Type units.

Because of how similar this unit is with the Rick Dom TB, you can't avoid comparing the two. The Rick Dom TB's main issue is how its only defensive skill is a 25% max HP buff, and it likely won't survive the onslaught it brings toward itself by provoking all the opposing units, so it absolutely needs heavy hitters alongside who can take out opponents quickly and hopefully lessen the number of mobile suits attacking it. However, it does pack quite a punch with its 1443% ATK damage EX skill, stacking EX damage of up to 35%, and being able to start matches with 50% EX gauge already filled.

On the other hand, the Messer Type F01 is far more durable since it has a 25% max HP buff than what the Rick Dom TB has while having way more defensive skills, including a constant 50% DEF, another 50% more DEF for 20 seconds on using its EX Skill, and 11% less beam and projectile damage taken. This makes the Messer way more capable defensively in terms of trying to survive a provoked 6-man attack. Its downside is that it doesn't deal as much damage with its EX skill, nor does it get to start matches with its EX gauge halfway filled.

With that in mind, the Messer Type F01 takes the cake as the better Armored unit, since you typically want Armored units to be as durable as possible to be able to protect their team for longer. It still might not survive a 6-man onslaught, but it definitely has better odds of making it out of there alive than the Rick Dom TB.

Needs Transcending and Potential Unleashed

What makes this unit so tanky is the 50% DEF buff that it gets from both Transcendent Lv. 5 and its EX Skill. The 25% max HP buff is also locked behind Transcendent Skills. Without these, it's just as squishy as the Rick Dom, and it wouldn't be able to handle having all 6 enemy units attacking it for 8 seconds. It might not even last 5 seconds without Transcending this unit. You'll want to invest as much as you can into this unit to unlock its defensive potential.

He also grants 76% more ranged sense and 20% more accuracy. If you have the Messer Type F01, Ubaldo will be good in it, Danton will be better, but Gawman will be best.
