The Arena is filled with mobile suits of all types, with the most common units being either heavy hitters in the game's meta or units that even F2P players can use at a high level. Read on to learn about the most common mobile suits in Arena and how to beat them.

Most Common Arena Meta Mobile Suits and Counters |
---|
[M0317] Gyan |
The Gyan is an Arena meta-defining unit because of its ability to force enemy units to attack only its allied Armored units for the first 15 seconds of combat, or until no allied Armored units are left, whichever comes first. This keeps the opposing attackers away from the Gyan's DPS allies, allowing the latter to freely hit opponents and use their EX Skills without fear of retaliation.
Gyan Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0317] Gyan | [M0086] Zeta Gundam | [M0218] Sazabi [THE LIFE-SIZED v Gundam STATUE] |
Theoretically, there's no need to counter the Gyan because it by itself isn't too much of a threat. It's the tanks that you have to counter and deal with quickly. Having your own Gyan allows your mobile suits to eat away at tanks safely, except when against a Gyan + AoE team comp. The Zeta Gundam and the Sazabi, on the other hand, are some of the best tank busters in the game.
You're gonna want to learn how to counter the Penelope and The-O, as these two units are the best Armored mobile suits to pair alongside the Gyan. Luckily for you, guides on how to counter those two can also be found on this list.
[M0056] Zeong |
The Zeong is a Bombardment unit that is best known for its powerful AOE EX Skill that can hit entire teams while dealing bonus damage to Protagonist mobile suits. What makes this EX Skill so powerful is that the Protagonist unit category tag is among the most common in the game, and it surely has plenty of favorable matchups in Arena. It also has multi-hit-count weapons that hit very hard, thanks to the multiple beam damage buffs it receives.
Zeong Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0105] The-O | [M0252] Blue Destiny Unit-1 | [M0245] Titania |
The Zeong's biggest weakness is its lack of accuracy. Even with its signature pilot, it struggles to deal with evasive targets. That said, the best counter to the Zeong is The-O, who not only benefits from a type advantage over the Zeong, but because its high evasion will cause the Zeong to miss a lot. Each miss heals and charges up The-O's EX gauge. The Titania is another good counter for the same reasons barring the type advantage. Finally, BD-1 is a fine counter to any and all Newtype Machines, which is a classification that the Zeong falls under.
[M0218] Sazabi [THE LIFE-SIZED v Gundam STATUE] |
The Yellow Sazabi is an incredibly powerful skirmisher with a ton of damage, DEF bypass, 66% life steal, and Bullseye status effect for the first 18 seconds of combat. Its damage comes from both its EX Skill and the loads of beam damage buffs it gets, as well as having its signature pilot on, which grants 300% more melee and ranged sense. This unit is very common among the higher-ranked players in the world given how strong of a skirmisher it is.
Sazabi [THE LIFE-SIZED v Gundam STATUE]Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0245] Titania | [M0231] Penelope | [M0214] Zaku I with Big Gun (Thunderbolt) |
The best counter to the Sazabi is the Titania. While at first glance, the Sazabi's Bullseye will annihilate evasion-based Titania, the latter's Absolute Evade cancels the Sazabi's Bullseye, so it becomes an accuracy vs evasion battle that the Titania will win, given that the Sazabi doesn't have any buffs that increase its accuracy.
Purple types can also deal big damage to the Sazabi, though they are also weak to Yellow types and vice versa. While it'll get chunked by strong purple types, it can heal back the damage it receives because of its lifesteal.
A good way to go about fighting a Yellow Sazabi is to position a beefy frontline unit like Penelope or the FATB in front of it. In particular, the Penelope is a good unit against the Yellow Sazabi because of its Guard Rate, which reduces any damage it receives to 1. The Yellow Sazabi dealing only 1 damage when guarded is huge, since this means that it won't get to life steal as well.
However, a Penelope alone won't stop it, so you'll want to place strong ranged attackers behind the Penelope or whichever Armored unit you're using to take it down while it's preoccupied, or at least critically damage it. Alternatively, you could also place it in a column where no enemy units stand, as this will allow the countering MS to target the Sazabi right when the battle begins, though that's only if no other opposing Yellow-type units are closer to your counter unit. The Zaku I BG and the Sisquiede Titans Color can do well in this role, but once the Sazabi gets to them it's over.
How to Counter the Yellow Sazabi
[M0122] Gundam GP02A |
The Gundam GP02A is currently one of the most effective Arena units in the game right now, which is the reason why it's such a common unit, especially among the top-ranked players in the world. It's a tanky armored unit equipped with a devastating AOE EX Skill that deals a ridiculous amount of damage to all opponents.
The catch with this unit is how long it takes to fire off its EX Skill. That said, the best way to deal with the GP02A is to take it out of the battle before it's able to use its EX Skill.
Gundam GP02A Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0041] ZZ Gundam | [M0335] Nu Gundam (Green) | [M0251] Unicorn Gundam Perfectibility |
The Gundam GP02A is a Blue Armored unit, which means it's weak to Green types and Close Combat and Bombardment units. Avoid Red types and Raid units as these aren't effective against the GP02A's unit typing at all.
That said, one of the best counters to the GP02A is the ZZ Gundam, enjoying double the advantages while being a very strong unit on its own. The Unicorn PF is arguably the best GP02A counter given how well-rounded it is as a high damage crit-based DPS threat, hence why many consider it the best Green-type MS for Arena aside from The-O. Finally, there's the Green Nu Gundam which not only has the best heal in the game, but also has good damage output, provided you buy it enough time to ramp up its beam damage buffs.
How to Counter the Gundam GP02A
[M0105] The-O |
The-O is a lot like the GP02A in the sense that they're both tanky armored units with big damage. However, while the GP02A becomes easier to take down as the match goes on and its EX Skill is a straightforward AOE nuke, The-O's EX Skill requires a bit more setup as it deals 1385% of its ATK to one opponent. But if the target is inflicted with the Unavoidable debuff, it deals additional damage equal to 701% of its ATK. The-O is also much harder to take down than the GP02A since it has good amounts of built-in evasion while also healing every time it evades. While The-O is a better defensive Armored unit, the GP02A is a better offensive tank.
Try to match The-O against your key units who have high accuracy, the Bullseye status effect, or can inflict the Unavoidable debuff, since a big part of The-O's power comes from being able to evade attacks. The-O is usually allied with units like the Hyaku Shiki that can inflict Unavoidable on opponents to boost its EX Skill damage, so going for those earlier on can also spell the difference between victory and defeat.
The-O Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0258] Banshee Norn | [M0123] Gundam GP04 | [M0100] Hyaku Shiki |
The-O is a Green Armored unit, so Red types, Bombardment units, and Close Combat units should fare well against it. The Banshee Norn has made a name for itself as a designated The-O killer, and so has the GP04. Both units have strong damage coupled with high accuracy, on top of having advantages over The-O.
The Hyaku Shiki, while being one of The-O's best MS pairings, also serves as a good counter to The-O. If The-O gets inflicted with the Unavoidable debuff, it won't get to evade, and therefore, won't charge its EX or heal. It's not just the Hyaku Shiki that counters The-O, but rather, anyone that can inflict this debuff. The same goes for units with Bullseye and high accuracy, though Unavoidable, which is the best counter given that it completely prevents The-O from evading attacks from all the opposing mobile suits.
[M0231] Penelope |
The Penelope is the best defensive mobile suit in the game, being the hardest Armored unit to take down given its high guard rate. Guarding is a mechanic that reduces the incoming damage down to just 1. This means that the Penelope can get hit by the hardest-hitting attacks in the game and receive just 1 damage per instance. The Penelope's high DEF which is its base amount increased by 60%, as well as the 25% max HP boost it receives cushions the blow of the attacks that manage to get through its guard rate. It also charges up its EX Skill each time it receives damage, making it a potent offensive threat as well.
Penelope Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0238] Gundam Ez8 | [M0056] Zeong | [M0086] Zeta Gundam |
The catch with the Penelope is that for each instance of damage received, it lowers its guard rate for 10 seconds. That means that high hit count units like the Zeong and Qubeley work well against the Penelope. Critical strikes and EX Skills bypass guard rate, so using crit-based units and EX spammers like the Ez8, Unicorn PF, and Zeta Gundam work well against the Penelope.
[M0086] Zeta Gundam |
The Zeta Gundam has been one of the strongest units in the game for a while now. It receives a couple of beam damage buffs while having a ton of EX gauge recovery buffs, making its powerful DEF bypassing EX Skill extremely spammable. This unit will do well against almost anything, given how its EX deals good damage, bypasses defenses, and is fired off at an absurdly rapid rate.
This unit is one of the best snowballers in the game, quickly decimating its targets and moving on to the next one. To prevent that from happening, immediately place a strong counter in front of it and kill it right away, or at least try to keep it occupied so your team can help focus on it.
Zeta Gundam Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0252] Blue Destiny Unit-1 | [M0214] Zaku I with Big Gun (Thunderbolt) | [M0183] Sisquiede Titans Color |
The Zeta Gundam is easier to counter than the Sazabi since it can't sustain itself without being healed. When you hit it with big damage, it'll stay that way whereas the Sazabi will just heal back the damage it got if you don't finish it off. On top of that, the Zeta has a very hard counter in the Blue Destiny Unit-1 whereas the Yellow Sazabi has none.
The Blue Destiny Unit-1 has made a name for itself as a Zeta Gundam killer, as it deals ridiculous bonus damage to Newtype Machines, on top of having a type advantage over the Zeta Gundam.
If you don't have the Blue Destiny Unit-1, the Zaku I with Big Gun can also deal some big damage that the Zeta won't be able to recover from. However, just like with the Yellow Sazabi, once the Zeta closes in on the Zaku I BG it's over. The same can be said for the Sisquiede Titans Color, though it'll perform a bit worse than the Zaku since it doesn't deal as much damage.
[M0245] Titania |
The Titania is kind of like a melee version of The-O, in the sense that they're both units that rely on evading attacks to heal and charge their EX gauge. However, the Titania benefits from Absolute Evade while The-O just has high amounts of regular evasion. The Titania also thrives in melee combat, given its 3 melee weapons that can really hurt opponents when up close and personal. That said, units with Bullseye won't necessarily beat the Titania, as the Bullseye and Absolute Evade will cancel out, turning it into a regular accuracy vs evade battle. For example, the Yellow Sazabi won't do well against the Titania because its low accuracy loses against the Titania's decent evasion. On the other hand, the Xi Gundam does well since its accuracy buffs are greater than the Titania's evasion buffs.
Titania Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0100] Hyaku Shiki | [M0230] Xi Gundam | [M0105] The-O |
Unavoidable is a debuff that can easily spell trouble for the Titania, given that it won't be able to EX spam and heal itself. Units that can inflict this debuff like the Hyaku Shiki and The-O counter the Titania. On the other hand, units with both Bullseye and high accuracy like the Xi Gundam can also bully the Titania.
[M0196] Hamma-Hamma |
The Hamma-Hamma is yet another meta unit with strong AOE EX Skills. Similarly to The-O, the Hamma-Hamma’s AOE EX Skill deals a lot more damage when hitting stunned opponents, and when hitting foes inflicted with the Unavoidable debuff, it also stuns them for 4 seconds.
Just like with The-O, you'll wanna take out this unit early to prevent it from repeatedly stunning and bursting your units. Alternatively, taking out its debuffing allies like the Qubeley and the Hyaku Shiki early can severely limit its impact.
Hamma-Hamma Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0239] S Gundam | [M0245] Titania | [M0056] Zeong |
The Hamma-Hamma is a Red Generic unit, which means it's only weak to Blue-type mobile suits. The Zeong is currently the premier DPS threat who happens to be a Blue-type, while the Titania is one of the highest damage Blue-type melee units in the game. Lastly, the S Gundam is an excellent Blue type that can take out units with ease as well thanks to its high damage and crits. All these units should fare well against the Hamma-Hamma.
[M0029] Qubeley |
The Qubeley won't always top the damage charts of a battle, but it's an extremely well-rounded unit that has good damage, high accuracy with its Third Weapon, and very high evasion. However, it earns a spot on most teams for its EX Skill, which hits all enemies for a good chunk of damage, reduces their evasion by 27%, and stuns them all for 4 seconds. Its EX Skill charges rather fast as well since it receives a 33% EX gauge recovery self-buff.
This unit is another staple in AOE teams as its AOE stun can buy time for its other heavy-hitting allies to use their EX Skills. Additionally, this stun also fulfills the Hamma-Hamma's conditional bonus damage with its EX Skill. On top of all these, reducing all opponents' evasion by 27% is useful in almost all your battles since evasion units are very common in this game.
Qubeley Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0086] Zeta Gundam | [M0218] Sazabi [THE LIFE-SIZED v Gundam STATUE] | [M0122] Gundam GP02A |
The Qubeley is a Purple unit that can be quite hard to deal with as it can reach up to 95% evasion on its own, and even more when paired with a pilot that grants that same stat. That said, the key to beating the Qubeley is high accuracy and high-damage EX Skills.
Yellow types and Purple types deal enhanced damage against each other, and it just so happens that the two best Yellow types in the game have kits perfectly suited for taking down the Qubeley. The Zeta Gundam is a strong EX Skill spammer and EX Skills can't be dodged, which renders the Qubeley's evasion useless. The Yellow Sazabi deals some big damage on top of having the Bullseye status effect, so it'll make quick work of the Qubeley. Finally, high-damage EX Skills from units like the Gundam GP02A will also go through the Qubeley's evasion and critically damage it.
[M0100] Hyaku Shiki |
The Hyaku Shiki by itself isn't all that tough, but it earns a spot on most teams thanks to its ability to inflict the Unavoidable debuff on all opponents, rendering evasion useless and opening them up to attacks. This makes the Hyaku Shiki one of the best units in Arena as an AOE debuffer. On top of that, the EX Skills of a lot of the strongest units in the game like The-O, Hamma-Hamma, and Zeta Gundam deal more damage or have additional effects when hitting opponents with the Unavoidable debuff, so when against these types of team compositions, prioritize killing the Hyaku Shiki first to make these units less effective.
Hyaku Shiki Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0105] The-O | [M0236] Pale Rider (Space Type) | [M0275] Zaku III Custom (TWA) |
As a Blue Raid unit, Green and Armored units will deal more damage to the Hyaku Shiki while also taking less damage from it. The Zaku III Custom (TWA) will laugh at the little damage the Hyaku Shiki can do to it and will open it up to attacks from your team while the Pale Rider will make light work of the Hyaku Shiki with its high damage attacks. However, the best counter to the Hyaku Shiki is The-O, as it's a Green Armored unit with a strong defense and a potent offense too.
[M0123] Gundam GP04 |
The Gundam GP04 is one of the top-tier Generic units in the game thanks to its long-range weaponry, high accuracy, and strong beam damage. Against the GP04, melee units will struggle to close in while evasion units will still get hit. It approaches battle similar to how Sniper units do given how two of its weapons can be fired off at long range, but as a Generic unit, this unit doesn't suffer from any category disadvantages, nor does it benefit from any category advantages.
Gundam GP04 Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0239] S Gundam | [M0245] Titania | [M0122] Gundam GP02A |
The key to beating the GP04 is to use strong Blue type units. The S Gundam, the Titania, and the GP02A will all do a solid job against the GP04 given their status as top-tier Blue-type units.
The S Gundam is the best ranged Blue-type damage dealer and will make quick work of the GP04. The Titania is the best Blue-type melee attacker who also happens to have Absolute Evade, rendering the GP04's high accuracy useless. Finally, the GP02A is the best Armored Blue type who also has one of, if not the most potent EX Skill in the game. The GP04 will struggle to take it down and will probably die once the GP02A gets to fire off its EX.
[M0183] Sisquiede Titans Color |
The Sisquiede Titans Color is a Purple Sniper unit that deals good beam damage accurately from a distance. However, what earns this unit a spot on most teams is its EX Skill and how it chunks all opponents for some damage while reducing the beam damage they output by 30%. This 30% debuff is huge, given how most of the meta units in the game deal beam damage, and projectile damage isn't nearly as common among the most used units. All opponents will deal a third less beam damage, which significantly boosts the chances of the Sisquiede's allies winning their duels.
Sisquiede Titans Color Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0016] Char's Zaku II | [M0086] Zeta Gundam | [M0218] Sazabi [THE LIFE-SIZED v Gundam STATUE] |
A very common unit that works well against the Sisquiede Titans Color is the Char's Zaku II. It enjoys a category advantage over it and all the damage it deals is projectile, which means the Sisquiede's debuff won't affect it at all. The Zeta Gundam and the Yellow Sazabi on the other hand, enjoy a type advantage over it. Despite these two dealing beam damage, they'll still deal huge amounts of damage and once they lock in on the Sisquiede it'll die almost immediately.
[M0214] Zaku I with Big Gun (Thunderbolt) |
Zaku I With Big Gun (BGZ) is yet another top-tier Purple Sniper unit. Unlike the Sisquiede, which fills a more supportive role, this unit is meant to deal big beam damage accurately from a distance and execute opponents with its EX Skill. A more straightforward Sniper playstyle that suffers from the typical Sniper weakness of not being very durable.
Zaku I With Big Gun Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0105] The-O | [M0086] Zeta Gundam | [M0218] Sazabi [THE LIFE-SIZED v Gundam STATUE] |
While the BGZ will perform well against the Zeta Gundam and the Yellow Sazabi, that's only if it's positioned well and protected by other units who can take hits from them. If these two manage to outduel their initial matchups and reach the BGZ it's done for. Other than these two, AOE units like the GP02A and The-O can kill the BGZ with their EX Skills, or at least critically damage it. Just make sure the BGZ doesn't take them out before they get to EX.
Most Common Arena Meta Mobile Suits and Counters |
---|
[M0194] Gundam |
A unit that's very common among the lower-ranked Arena players, the Gundam is automatically acquired with its Potential Level already at max, which earns him a spot in rosters that don't have many hours in the game. The Gundam is a Blue Raid unit that has a pretty straightforward damage-oriented kit, with a little bit of evasion when fully transcended.
Gundam Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0105] The-O | [M0275] Zaku III Custom (TWA) | [M0236] Pale Rider (Space Type) |
This unit isn't very hard to take down given how it's a mediocre damage-oriented unit with barely any defenses that's vastly outperformed by the top-tier units in the game. Putting in a Green Armored unit like The-O and the Zaku III Custom will easily preoccupy this unit until it dies. Alternatively, placing a hard-hitting Green-type unit like the Pale Rider will make quick work of it.
With how this unit currently is, you don't really have to specifically field in a counter for the Gundam. Any strong unit with a similar CP or higher can deal with this pretty easily, provided they don't have category or type disadvantages against the Gundam.
[M0016] Char's Zaku II |
The Char's Zaku II can be upgraded to Potential Lv. 5 without having to pull for it, given how its Blueprints are available in both the Shop and Fragment Quests. That said, you'll run into this unit a lot, especially at the lower ranks of Arena play. Unlike the Gundam, this unit is actually quite strong, and can give you some trouble if you are not careful. It deals decent projectile damage while having a good amount of evasion and movement speed self-buffs. Finally, it has the ability to stun a single opponent for up to 7 seconds, locking them in place and leaving them vulnerable.
Char's Zaku II Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0029] Qubeley | [M0052] Sazabi | [M0122] Gundam GP02A |
Char's Zaku II is at its strongest when the battle begins, as its evasion is only high when its health stays at 100%. Damaging it just once brings its evasion down from 75% to 25%, and then it'll be easier to deal with after that.
The Qubeley can make it even easier to beat the Zaku II thanks to its own AOE stun and its evasion debuff. Meanwhile, the Sazabi has strong beam damage and enough evasion to give the Zaku II a hard time, on top of having a type advantage over it. Finally, the GP02A enjoys both a type and category advantage over it while having the ability to delete the Zaku with its EX Skill.
[M0031] Gundam Mk-II (Titans) |
The Gundam Mk-II is yet another unit that you can easily upgrade to Potential Lv. 5 through Fragment Quests. Just like the Char's Zaku II, it's another accessible yet solid option, which earns it a spot on a lot of lower-ranked Arena teams. The Mk-II is a potent support as its EX Skill makes enemies take 50% more beam damage for 20 seconds, which is huge, especially since most of the meta units in the game use beam damage.
Gundam Mk-II (Titans) Counters | ||
---|---|---|
[M0105] The-O | [M0275] Zaku III Custom (TWA) | [M0236] Pale Rider (Space Type) |
The key to hard-countering the Gundam Mk-II is the same as the vanilla Gundam. The-O and the Zaku III Custom will easily outduel this unit without taking much damage while the Space Rider will make quick work of it. Given how this unit isn't as good as the SS-tier and S-tier picks, a lot of other Green-type mobile suits can beat this unit without much trouble.
