Gundam U.C. Engage's mid-game has you building up your mobile suits' strength while ultimately getting you ready for the Arena. Read on to learn how to get to that endgoal by making your mobile suits strong.
List of Contents
So you've gotten started with Gundam UCE, making progress through Story Mode while slowly stocking up on Diamonds and building up your current mobile suits. Where to go from here?
The best thing you can do is to eventually climb up the ranks of the Arena by competing with other players. But your mobile suit team might be far away from being powerful enough to beat the top players. That's why at this stage, you will want to focus on raising your Player Rank to the maximum level and getting your mobile suits' Transcendence, Potential, Custom, and Skill Rate levels maxed out as well.
Once you get there, it's a good time to get serious with the Arena and Gundam UCE's endgame.
Just like in the Beginner's Guide, we will be discussing the essentials of what you need to know at this stage to get where you need to go. But for more details, we also linked articles that delve deeper into the topics discussed.
Just like when you started out with Gundam UCE, your first priority in the mid-game is to stock up on more Diamonds. The Main Quest will continue to be your best source of free Diamonds, and you should be strong enough to get very far ahead. A team needs approximately 1.7 million CP to 3-star clear all the missions up to Episode 25 in all three Eras, so use this as a guideline to gauge how far your team will get in the Main Quest and grind accordingly.
Your second-biggest in-game source of Diamonds is participating in events. Any events that offer Achievement Rewards usually give out good amounts of Diamonds, such as Clan Battle and others. There are also alternate game modes that give out Diamonds like Phantom Ace and the Arena.
Aim to stockpile around 100,000 Diamonds if you want to have at least one copy of the mobile suit plus the chance to get it to Potential Unleashed Level 5. (also emphasize here that getting a featured unit to P5 while the banner is still active will allow them to transcend all the way to T5 for free, saving them 2,250 Rainbow Haro Coins that would've taken months or years to accumulate)
Assuming that you don't get all six copies of the mobile suit even after spending all those Diamonds, however, you might want to have as much as 360,000 Diamonds. Although this assumes the absolute worst-case scenario wherein you only get one copy of the mobile suit through the hard pity every 200 pulls.
If you followed our advice back in the Beginner's Guide to make mono-type teams to deal with PvE content, you will have an easier time dealing with Events as well since the enemies featured in them are typically made up of mono-type teams as well. If you haven't, we suggest working on a mono-type team right now. One for each type (Blue, Red, Green, Yellow, and Purple) to clear Story Mode missions and events faster (thus, getting Diamonds faster), as well as perform better in Cooperative Battles.
Now what to do with those stockpiled Diamonds? Get the best mobile suits the game has to offer, of course. We have tier lists of which units are the best in either PvE or PvP, and you can try to get the top units listed by pulling from either the Super Limited or Extreme Limited Unit Assembly Banners.
Coincidentally, these are also the banners you should be pulling upcoming units from. If it's coming from a Super Limited or Extreme Limited Unit Assembly banner, there's a good chance that the unit is "meta," though you won't get the final word on whether or not it's actually good until it's released.
These banners also give you the chance to pull for some of the units from previous Super Limited or Extreme Limited Unit Assembly banners, and since a lot of the top-tier meta picks can only be found in these banners, it's best to only spend your hard-earned Diamonds on Super Limited or Extreme Limited Banners, and not the regular MS and Character Banners.
When it comes to judging a good mobile suit, check out its EX Skill first. Sure it deals damage equivalent to X% of its ATK, but does the EX Skill come with any useful buffs for itself or its allies? Does it inflict debuffs that keep the enemy from dealing damage, ensure a 100% hit on them, or other harmful effects? Does it deal additional damage to units with specific traits like the "Newtype Machine" category?
Another factor to consider is how fast it fires off its EX Skill. The EX Skill can only be fired once an MS's EX gauge is full, and the EX gauge charges when either your mobile suit gets hit or makes a hit on the enemy. If you check the mobile suit's weapons, you should look at their Attack Counts. The higher the attack count, the faster that mobile suit's EX gauge will recharge - especially if it's a melee weapon.
There are other factors to consider when picking a mobile suit in our article below, but looking at how useful its EX Skill is and how fast it can use that EX Skill is the most important thing to check when deciding whether or not a mobile suit is "Meta" or worth pulling for.
What Should You Look For in a Mobile Suit and Pilot?
If you began building your Haro Coin Farms early on, you should've been able to make at least one or two of them out of Char's Zaku II and the Gundam Full Armor , maybe even three. That should give you 18 Rainbow Haro Coins daily, and you will need at least 125 Rainbow Haro Coins to raise a mobile suit's Transcendent Skill level by 1.
At this stage, one of the fastest ways you can grow a Haro Coin farm is by participating in events. Certain events are accompanied by UR mobile suits and pilots given to you for free, and these events also reward players with more blueprints/pieces for those free units.
If you finish the event and get all the rewards, there's a good chance that you've already raised the Potential Unleashed level of that mobile suit by two levels. This saves you time and effort, as you will have to grind for only 3 Potential Unleashed levels instead of five through Fragment Quests.
How to Farm and Use Blueprints and Character Pieces
Once you've gotten enough Rainbow Haro Coins together, you can start Transcending your units. We recommend transcending your best units first, meaning top-tier units in both PvE and PvP. Rainbow Haro Coins are one of, if not, the most important resource in the game, so you only want to spend it on units that give you the most bang for your buck.
Note that to fully Transcend a unit all the way to Level 5, you will need a total of 2,250 Rainbow Haro Coins plus 17,200 regular Coins.
What Upgrade Should I Do First?
You have probably been participating in Coop Battles and getting random Modules with various stat boosts. But now that you've assembled a good enough team, you will have to focus on getting the best Modules you can, especially for your most powerful units.
As of this writing, the best Modules to aim for are those that raise your mobile suit's HP, such as Augmentation Frames. Since the current meta revolves around fielding units with powerful AOE EX skills, players will want to boost their units' HP in order for them to survive at least one or two EX skills (and hopefully take out the enemy team before a third).
The trouble is that you only get Modules So try to use all the AP you can for Cooperative Battles to eventually get Augmentation Frames that correspond to the type (color) of the MSs you want to put Modules into and have Special Abilities that complement their skills (e.g. "Critical Rate Up," etc.).
Your weaker SR modules won't be put to waste though, as you can trade them in via your clan and get 40 Clan Medals for each one instead.
Your N, R, and unused/weak SR modules can also be traded in the Dock for Unit Enhancement Pts., another important currency used for Unit Enhancement.
Because modules can be used in so many ways, using up as much BP as much as you can on Cooperative Battles not only improves your chances of getting top-tier modules for your units but also gives you plenty of Clan Medals and Unit Enhancement Pts. as well.
By now you may already have a team that is capable of taking on the Arena with more than 1 million CP. Once you get a few good meta units and modules, you should aim to get to 2 million CP to see some real results from your Arena matches. The 2 million CP mark is typically where you will start winning more than losing, and with it comes increased rewards in terms of Diamonds, Arena Medals, and Recycle Pts.
If you want a more detailed progression guide on winning in the Arena, we have a guide that will take you from the start all the way to the endgame.
Now, you've been raising your mobile suits' Transcendence and Potential Unleashed Levels to increase their combat power. But there are other ways to do that as well, namely raising their Custom Level via Alteration and raising their Skill Rate Level.
You may already know how to do Alteration, so now your objective is to max out your mobile suits' Custom Level. The easiest way to do that is to hoard UR Custom Tickets which fulfill all the material requirements you would have normally needed if you were raising your suit's custom level the usual way.
The best way to get UR Custom Tickets is by participating in events and winning them through Achievement Rewards. So, if you've been playing events to get more Blueprints and other items, you shouldn't have any trouble having a sizeable stash of these important items. A high Custom Level greatly raises your mobile suit's CP, as well as upgrades their skill 1 and 2 to their maximum potential.
As for raising a mobile suit's Skill Rate, all you need is to use these units in battle. You could also use Skill Rate Data Disks to raise your Skill Rate level, and you can get these for free throughout your playthrough as rewards or gifts, or by exchanging your Friend Medals at the Friend Shop. Raising a unit's Skill Rate increases its HP, DEF, ATK, and CP stats, so maxing out your unit's skill rate raises your unit's overall survivability in battle.
Now you are poised to grind through the rest of the Main Quest and other PvE modes, do so now so you can max out your player rank. It's important to get to the max player rank of the current update because your mobile suit's maximum levels and Custom Levels are tied to it. If you don't raise your player rank, you will have trouble at the top ranks of the Arena, since all of them have maxed-out player ranks maxed-out unit levels, and maxed-out Custom Lv.
Aside from playing through the Main Quest, you can also play Cooperative Battles to get the EXP needed to raise your player rank. Once you do hit the max Player Rank, you will get Grand Coins instead of EXP, which you can then use to buy Blueprints and Pieces of mobile suits and pilots respectively.
