Gundam UCE's Arena is not only a competitive PvP mode, but it's also one of the game's top sources of Diamonds and other resources. Read our guide to find out how to get started in the Arena, what to do when you lose, and how to form your own formidable teams.
List of Contents

The Arena is Gundam UCE's premier PvP mode, and it's one of the most important gameplay modes not only because it allows you to compete with other players, but also because it's one of the best sources of Diamonds, Recycle Points, and Arena Medals (which can be used to buy Enhancement Chips, Gacha Tickets, and MS Blueprints).
But Arena is nothing like the Main Quest, Cooperative Battles, and events. That's because most of the teams your units will fight have been crafted by players just as determined as you are to come out on top and get those rewards. You'll occasionally face NPCs as well, but mostly, you'll compete against teams created by other players.
That's why we compiled this guide, which will teach you what the Arena is all about and how to get started. We'll also tackle what to do if you keep losing at the Arena, as well as the best teams being used by players and how to beat them.
You'll see all the essential info you need to learn about the Arena in this guide. But if you want more in-depth information, we linked relevant articles under each section that offer a more comprehensive look into the concepts being talked about here.

First off, if you are new to Gundam UCE, Arena is the game's seasonal ranked PvP game mode, which partly means you should only start thinking of seriously making it to the top if you have a reasonably strong team that's attuned to the game's meta. But even if you are just starting, it's important to be very active and try to get ranked highly in Arena to maximize your earnings from the mode's seasonal rewards.

To unlock Arena Mode, you need to get yourself to Player Rank 40. While the grind to Lv. 40 used to take a while, new accounts can grind well past Lv. 100 by following this guide on optimal player rank leveling.
Arena is accessed through the Quests button from the Home Screen. Once you've unlocked it, you'll have to do two things: Set an Offense team, and set a Defense team. You will set your Offense team each time you pick an enemy to fight , while you set your Defense team by tapping the "Set Formation" button in the Arena Menu.
Once you've set both teams, you're good to go, right? No. The Arena, as we already said, is nothing like Gundam UCE's PvE modes. Simply using your PvE team in the Arena and hoping you'll win brings only short-term gains (if you are lucky). We will say it as early as now: Until you have a team with meta units with decent investments and high Custom Levels, do not expect to win many matches at the Arena.

That may sound tough but don't lose heart. It's relatively easy to get a team up to 1 million CP. Also, even if you don't win at first in the Arena, it's highly recommended that you still fight. Even if you lose six times (six being the daily number of Arena matches you can participate in), it's so you get ranked in PvP and receive the end-of-season rewards.

Even if you are Rank 301 and below, that's still 450 free Diamonds, as well as 3,000 Arena Medals, and 1,500 Recycle Pts. So don't fret if you lose; you'll climb the ranks and get even more rewards over time. All you need is the right mobile suit team, knowledge of how to make them stronger, and some patience.

When you unlock the Arena, we recommend grinding immediately, especially if you are an F2P player. Even if you keep losing, it's better to use up all your 6 daily attempts at the Arena, as even a defeat still gives you Arena Medals that you can use to buy gacha tickets, Unit Enhancement tools, and blueprints of strong Sub MSs like the Banshee.
Speaking of strong mobile suits for PvP, some of them that you can acquire from the start are the Awakened Magna Martell, Sinanju (Generic), and the other mobile suits from our PvP Tier List's SS-tier and S-tier. If you rerolled to get these units from the 72-Hour banner or other limited gacha banners, you should have at least one of these units to have an easier time in PvP.
Best Mobile Suit Tier List (PvP)

Now that you have good units, strengthen them with the eventual goal of getting them to max investments and over a million CP. To raise your units' CP, raise their level, Custom Level, Skill Rate Level, and Potential Unleashed Level.
Levels are raised by just participating in battles with the units, or with leveling materials like Enhancement Programs, while an MS's Custom Level is raised by Altering the MS with Alteration Materials or Custom Tickets. Skill Rate is raised just by yet another upgrade resource called Skill Rate Enhancement Programs, and Potential Unleashed is raised when you get more copies of your MS, which increases both its stats and its EX Skill's potency.
You should also Transcend your mobile suits, though this is one of the most expensive parts of strengthening your mobile suit. Transcendence (unlocking your mobile suit's "Transcendent Skill") costs Rainbow Haro Coins, which are tough to come by even if you have a lot of Diamonds.

To get more of the materials you need to level up your MS, we recommend clearing as many stages in the Main Quest as possible. The best thing you can earn from the Main Quests is the Diamonds, which should help you in your quest to acquire the game's strongest and most impactful units.
How to Get Started With the Arena?

At this point, you have probably been losing at the Arena even though you've already raised your MS team's collective CP to over a million or so. That's understandable. You'll still often lose even when your team is at 1 million CP, but if you keep losing to teams of similar CPs, it's time to look into other reasons why. You have to win battles to rise through the ranks, after all.
One of the likeliest reasons you are losing at the Arena is not having the right units. Generally, top-tier units such as the F91 (Full Power) and Waverider Zeta are strong, but even they will fall if they're facing off against their direct counters.

Both the F91 and the Zeta Gundam are Gundam-Type units, which means that Char's Z'Gok can help your units prioritize them and deal significantly more damage towards them, allowing for quicker elimination which minimizes the damage you take from them. It's common for people to use Unavoidable to counter the F91, but you could also significantly lower its EX damage resistance buffs with a Z'Gok + Magna Martell (Awaken) debuff combo, allowing EX skills to somewhat go through its impressive defenses. As for the Zeta Gundam, using a Todesritter can easily prevent it from transforming into its Waverider form and using its Lethal EX skill, given the Todesritter's anti-Newtype skills and having a type advantage over the Zeta.
You will see what kind of Defense team your opponent has before the battle starts, so adjust your team accordingly.

Another common reason behind your losses at the arena could be your deployment formation. Unless you have the "Skip Deployment" option in the team select screen turned "On" (turn it off), you will be able to set what location of the map your units will start the battle from.

Don't use the "Auto-Deploy" option in battle either. The rule of thumb is to position your units in front of units they have a type (color) advantage over. If there aren't any, place them in a column where there aren't any enemies, as that'll send them toward the closest MS they have a type advantage over. These all change when certain units who mess with the default aggro system enter the equation, such as the Gyan, Char's Z'Gok, Gundam F91 (Full Power), and the like.
Think of how your team will be attacked as well. Look to draw enemy aggro toward your tanky units to buy time for your DPS units to do their thing. Plenty of DPS units, often Bombardment and Sniper units, lose powerful buffs when falling below certain HP thresholds, so prioritize keeping those units safe.
There aren't any advantages to following the game's suggested category positions, so prioritize your units' safety and their offensive advantage when fixing your deployment scheme.
Why Do I Keep Losing at the Arena?

You'll have three options to pick from in the Arena screen, and the first option is always a Rank Change Battle. Even if you're massively under-leveled for the team they set you up with, always pick the Rank Change Battle since these reward you with the most amount of Arena Pts. Once you've ranked up by a bit, you'll notice very quickly that a loss in a Rank Change Battle gives you more Arena Pts. than winning an unranked battle with the 2nd or 3rd battle option.
If you didn't already know, your Arena ranking is determined by how much Arena Pts. you've gathered throughout the week-long season. It is not affected whatsoever by how many games you've lost. That said, the key to ranking high is consistency. Sure, winning is important too since that's how you rank up and earn more points per battle, but being able to play all 6 daily games for the whole week is so much more valuable. A player with a 30% win rate but completes all Arena games for the week will rank so much higher than a person with a 100% win rate but was only able to play for 2 days.

As for using the right modules, Modules are equippable items you can win by doing Cooperative Battles. They raise your mobile suit's key stats, especially HP. And with the current game meta being focused on mobile suits with devastating area-of-effect (AOE) attacks, having more HP is important to survive the attack and carry on the fight.
This is why we recommend getting modules that raise HP, specifically SR Augmentation Frame A. With two of these modules, your unit can survive any AOE attacks sent their way by something like the Zeong.

In Gundam UCE's Arena, the Gundam F91 (Full Power), the Sinanju, and the Victory 2 Assault Gundam are some of the most powerful units you can face. But they, and other units can also be countered. If you face units like them while rising up the Arena's ranks, there are certain units that may help.

[M0100] Hyaku Shiki

[M0089] Char's Z'Gok
|
[M0296] Magna Martell (Awaken)
|
The most effective way to beat this MS is with Unavoidable, as this will prevent it from being able to evade, which is the main gimmick that makes it so hard to kill. Units like the Zeta Gundam (Waverider), Baund Doc, and Hyaku Shiki excel in this debuffer role. When paired together, Char's Z'Gok and Magna Martell (Awaken) can inflict significant debuffs on the F91 that allow it to get damaged by EX skills, opening up a completely different way to take it down.
Lastly, Bullseye can also work, but it has to be accompanied with high accuracy since the F91 has high amounts of evasion that you have to go through if you negate its Absolute Evade with Bullseye. Just one of either won't work against the MEPE.

While it's definitely a powerful MS, the Sinanju comes with a few weaknesses that other units can exploit. The first is its type disadvantage against Red-type units, so strong Red-type damage dealers like the Magna Martell (Awaken) can really chip away at the Sinanju's HP. Another weakness the Sinanju has is that it has no access to the Assault status, meaning it has no way of dealing with the Perfect Guard. That said, Perfect Guard units like the V2A Gundam should work very well against the Sinanju.
The Unicorn Gundam Perfectibility (NT-D) is a mobile suit that seems as if it were designed to counter the Sinanju. It jams Psycho-Frame Type units, deals more damage to them, and is more accurate against MSs of this unit category, like the Sinanju. Its EX skill also disables any healing, so the Sinanju's survivability takes a massive hit when under this debuff. The FAUC NT-D

The V2A's excellent utility and potent defense can prove to be troublesome if you don't have the right units. The only consistent ways to deal with this MS is by inflicting Unguardable on it from the Zeta Gundam (Waverider), or by using mobile suits with access to the Assault status. These negate or cancel out with the V2A's Perfect Guard. Without Perfect Guard, the V2A loses the very thing that makes it so hard to kill.
Of course, you'll still have to deal with its ramping evasion, but that usually peaks quite late into the match, so eliminating it early greatly improves your odds of winning the battle.
Most Common Arena Mobile Suits and Counters

If you've been using your own team to climb up the Arena, with one or two of the units we've suggested so far, that should be fine. But if you want to rise up to the top ranks of the Arena, you will have to have certain teams ready.
For example, below we have an all UR-mobile suit team that has some of the best units the game has to offer. However, it will take quite a lot of effort to not only get them but to fully unlock their Transcendent Skills and unleash their Potential.
| Mobile Suit | Details |
|---|---|
[M0431] Alex (Chobham Armor)
|
• An Armored unit that receives huge projectile and beam damage resistance boosts, which max out at 98% after using its EX skill. This EX skill also heals it for 45% of its max HP. • What makes this MS so strong is how it is able to reflect 144% of the EX damage it takes back at the attacker, and it has a 200,000 damage cap increase to help it reach huge amounts of damage when reflecting EX |
[M0378] Nu Gundam (Double Fin Funnels)
|
• While its lack of crits does limit its damage output, it is still extremely useful in Arena thanks to its ability to access both the Assault and Absolute Evade status effects. Its Assault status makes it excellent in taking down guard-oriented units, and can cancel out with Perfect Guard, all while its Absolute Evade grants it a strong layer of defense for the first 18s of combat. These come at the expense of a -200% crit rate debuff, which shouldn't bother you too much since you're not running Ez8 on this team anyway. • If your Arena matchup doesn't need you to run the Assault status, use a stronger DPS unit instead, like the Rozen Zulu or the Todesritter, or use something with a better utility like the F91 Full Power or Char's Z'Gok (against key Gundam-Types). |
[M0377] Victory 2 Assault Gundam
|
• The V2A is another mobile suit with incredible utility and respectable damage, the V2A heals the lowest HP unit, cuts the damage its entire team takes from EX skills, and grants itself Perfect Guard with its EX skill. It also benefits from ramping evasion and beam damage buffs, both maxing out at around the 25-second mark, which the V2A is very capable of reaching given its excellent defense. • With Gyan and Alex on the team, the lowest HP unit and recipient of the heal will likely be the Alex, which will allow it to last even longer in combat. |
[M0408] Sinanju
|
• The Sinanju is an incredibly high-damage self-sustaining crit-based unit with Bullseye. It's able to reach a 100% crit rate without the Ez8, charges its EX skill on crit, and heals itself by 10,000 HP on crit. |
[M0296] Magna Martell (Awaken)
|
• The Magna Martell (Awaken) has been a staple Arena pick ever since its release. It is an all-around unit with a potent high firepower offense, great defense with Absolute Evade that stays active for the remainder of the match once activated and a single-use heal, along with special event-only modules that synergize perfectly with this MS. |
[M0317] Gyan
|
• The best defensive unit in the game not because of its stats or defense, but because it draws enemy aggro towards its allied Armored units. This buys its allied DPS units time to do their thing and deal damage without fear of retaliation. |
For those who are starting out or have already invested somewhat in your units, you can check out our Budget and Dolphin teams in the article linked below.

If you want to have an idea of what teams you should be forming, it's also a good idea to check the teams of top-ranked players in the Arena from the previous season.
For example, in Season 88 (the previous season as of this writing), the top-ranked players often fielded in units from our PvP Tier List's SS-tier such as the Alex (Chobham Armor) Best Builds and Teams, Victory 2 Assault Gundam Best Builds and Teams, Sinanju (Generic), Magna Martell (Awaken) Best Builds and Teams, Gundam F91 (Full Power) Best Builds and Teams, and the like.
You don't have to imitate these teams as they are, but they are useful references as to what kind of teams your competitors will be using if and when you reach the top ranks. This can then give you an idea of what mobile suits you should get to counter them.
Top Ranked Arena Teams and Counters

Looking at past winning teams, as well as reaching out to other players in the Gundam UCE community, can give you a clue as to what the current meta
is or what unit gives the most advantage when used in battle. This is the top consideration whenever you are forming your own team.
Let's say the current meta revolves around units with access to powerful defensive status effects like Absolute Evade and Perfect Guard. That means you should get units like that in your own team (the V2A, the F91 MEPE, etc.) along with DPS and utility units that can bypass the said defenses.

Assuming you'll be pushing through Arena daily, your Defense team shouldn't be as big of a concern as your Offense team. But having the right one is still important to help you potentially rob the competition of points and possibly get them demoted by successfully defending against opposing players. You won't get any points yourself, but because this is a ranking ladder you're on, your rank somewhat benefits from your opponents losing battles.
While the line of thinking for Offense teams is to learn what the "Meta" of the game is and counter any teams using those same meta units, the same can be said about your defensive scheme.
The most valuable units on a defensive team are the ones who are hardest to counter and take over the match when none of their counters are present. An example is the Gundam F91 (Full Power), which can only be destroyed by units that inflict Unavoidable, high accuracy + evasion, or a Z'Gok+Magna Martell combo. Without these win conditions, the F91 will take out each opponent one by one, even if it's a 6v1 matchup.

Having Gyan, on the other hand, makes it much harder to penetrate your defenses since it'll draw enemy aggro toward your Armored unit, even if you place it in the backline.
If you have neither of these units, one of the most important strategies in Arena is to have an Armored unit of the same type/color as your carry protect it. This prevents opposing flankers with type advantages from attacking your carry, as they'll be forced to attack your Armored unit instead. For example, if your main DPS carry is the Zeong, having a Gundam GP02A in front of it can help it avoid taking damage from flanking Green-type mobile suits. If your carry is a Zeta Gundam or a Yellow Sazabi, have a Gato's Rick Dom or Over.On in front of it will benefit you for the same reason. This concept is a defense-only strategy, and your tanks on offense don't have to be the same type as your carry.
Arena Defense Team Building Guide

So you've been rising through the Arena rankings (either slowly or at a good pace), and you've started winning rewards. So, what should you spend your Diamonds, Arena Medals, and Recycle Pts. on?
Diamonds, of course, are self-explanatory. You use them mainly to get stronger units from the game's gacha banners. Arena Medals, on the other hand, are used to buy Chips, gacha tickets, and blueprints of certain units. We recommend getting the Char's Zaku II blueprints whenever you can, as the extra blueprints will help in forming a Haro Coin Farm out of it. After that, scan the other options to purchase as plenty of them can serve your team well as P5 Sub MSs.
Recycle Pts., are mainly exchanged in the Recycle Shop for Unit Enhancement Pts., but you could also get Alteration materials too, and more importantly, past Raid modules that can only be earned through previous Raid Battle iterations.
What to Grind for in the Arena

Purchasing Diamonds can be a game changer for your Arena ranking, especially if you spend them on banners that feature top-tier meta-defining units. There's only so much you can earn from the game's rewards, and with the game releasing tons of powerful and impactful mobile suits, it's easy to get left behind as you'll eventually run out of this premium resource.
If you do decide to go this route, know that the Gundam UCE Web Store offers more Diamonds for the same price as the in-game store.
What is the Gundam UCE Web Store?

The Haro Pass Pro has tons of perks that'll surely improve your Arena rankings.
Not only does it reward you with Diamonds, it also makes Coop Battle I skippable, and eliminates the need for Coop II and III tickets. This essentially means you'll have access to better modules, and will have the ability to quickly farm modules by just skipping Coop I when you're too busy to grind.
More modules mean more Recycle Pts., which means you'll get more Unit Enhancement Pts. Speaking of Unit Enhancement, you'll have the ability to tweak your Unit Enhancement Setups without needing any discs, which is a game changer if you want to optimize your loadout depending on the event you're tackling.
Finally, you'll earn one guaranteed UR gacha ticket for both an MS and a pilot, and these might just be the meta-defining units or key Sub MSs you've needed.
