Matsunaga's High Mobility Zaku II Analysis

Execute EX Skill With Fast Movement Speed

Matsunaga's Zaku is a Raid mobile suit whose blueprints can be acquired for free via Fragment Quests. It's best known for its high movement speed as well as its executioning capabilities.

This MS' EX skill deals 477% ATK to the lowest HP enemy unit, while also increasing its own movement speed by 76% for 20 seconds. Sadly, this MS does not have any skills that affect EX gauge recovery or restoration, so it'll take a while for it to charge up its EX gauge and use its EX skill.

Its Skill 1 increases projectile damage by 18% while its Skill 2 is a stacking projectile damage buff on evade that maxes out at 115%. This buff is definitely quite sizeable but at Transcendent Lv. 0, it has absolutely no evasion, so it'll have trouble getting those beam damage stacks.

Transcendence Unlocks Third Weapon, Evasion Buff, and Movement Speed Buff

Matsunaga's Zaku unlocks its Third Weapon by Transcending it. Getting it to max Transcendent Lv. also improves evasion by 25% and movement speed by 50%, with the former allowing it to access its stacking Skill 2 buff, and the latter improving combat performance.

Movement speed is great for mobile suits that rely on closing in on opponents and hitting opponents in melee range. Its movement speed allows it to do that faster, wasting less time traveling to where it needs to be.

While Transcending this MS improves it by a lot, it's not recommended to do so because of the weaknesses listed below.

Not Viable In PvP

Unfortunately, Matsunaga's Zaku suffers from a myriad of issues that hold it back from being a good Arena MS.

Its biggest beam damage buff is accessed only by evading, and even at maximum Transcendent Lv., it only has 25%, which isn't enough for it to evade at a good level. It's a Raid unit with just 1 melee weapon, so it'll have a non-optimal weapon rotation where it travels back and forth alternating between its weaker ranged weapons and its Heat Hawk. Even with the movement speed buffs, it'll waste plenty of time using its ranged weapons instead of its strongest ones. Finally, its lack of any EX gauge-related buffs prevents it from casting its EX skill early, so chances are it'll die before it even gets the chance to use its EX skill.

In PvE, however, Matsunaga's Zaku is a decent Green-type option if you need one of those to clear main quest stages or other low-level PvE content.

Shin Matsunaga is the signature pilot for this MS, but there are plenty of better pilots who can really improve the Zaku's damage output. Shin grants only a 76% ranged sense buff for 10 seconds after using its EX skill, as well as a 13% reaction buff. Any pilots with applicable evasion and melee sense buffs can do better than Shin Matsunaga for this MS specifically.
