Gauge Breaker Build

Gauge Breaker Build.gif
Ronin is a good Job to use for breaking up groups of enemies that try to rush you for attacks due to many of its attacks being capable of flinging enemies into the air or onto walls.

This build is built around the Job's strong ability to deplete an enemy's break gauge for follow up instant kills with all of its Combo Abilities supplemented by stat boosting Passives and Equipment Effects.

Command Ability Setup

Best Commands
Summon TachiSummon Tachi ReinforceReinforce CounterCounter
  • Summon Tachi: The sole Command Ability that players can unlock in the Ronin Job Tree. Activating this command ability temporarily increases the amount of damage taken by the player from enemies at the benefit of being able to deal more damage in return.
  • Reinforce: Command Ability unlocked in the Swordsman Job Tree. This decreases the amount of time required to charge attacks while also decreasing staggering from enemies – a particularly useful command for players who intent to make frequent use of Ronin's Iai-Giri Action Ability.
  • Counter: Found in the Pugilist Job Tree, Counter can reduce the cost to a player's break gauge whenever they perform a successful soul shield. It also increases the amount of MP Restored when doing so, which may help to keep their MP gauge fully stocked in preparation for assaults on the enemy.

  • Slash Break Damage +4.6%: There are two of these stat boosters to be found in the Ronin Job Tree. Affects not just the Combo or Action Abilities of the Job, but also regular attacks as well.
  • Action Ability MP Cost -2.6%: Iai-Giri is the most powerful ability you have at your disposal if you intend to break your enemy early in a fight. This Ability reduces the MP cost it takes to activate the ability, leaving you more for other attacks.
  • Ability Break Damage +5.1%: Increases the amount of damage you deal against an opponent's Break Gauge when using abilities against them.

Recommended Equipment Effects

Magic Resistance ( + )
MP Recovery Rate with Normal Attacks ( + )
Physical Damage Dealt ( + )
Critical Damage Dealt ( + )

While this build is particularly powerful and useful for dealing with crowds in-game, its lack of speed does have a tendency of leaving players vulnerable to most enemy attacks until they can perform actions that fend off the group.

Outside of the few stat boosting abilities in its Job Tree, players can only supplement their defenses with Magic Resistance, all while increasing their total damage output overall for the enemy's faster death.

Ice-Poisoner Build

Ice Poisoner Build.gif
This build is focused on Garo, a Combo Ability in the Ronin Job Tree that inflicts the Ice Elemental Damage against enemies. Although powerful on its own, we can add an additional affliction against enemies through the use of the Venom Command Ability, which can be unlocked in the Duelist Job Tree.

Successful use of both abilities will cause dual status ailments on enemies, leaving them increasingly vulnerable to your attacks.

  • Venom: Allows players to get enemies to gradually accumulate Poison overtime, with them eventually getting the status ailment once they have received enough hits. You can activate this command ability and then use the Garo Combo Ability in your attacks to inflict both Poison and Ice at the same time against enemies.
  • Reinforce: Command Ability unlocked in the Swordsman Job Tree. This decreases the amount of time required to charge attacks while also decreasing staggering from enemies

  • Focused Katana: Guarantees a critical hit while enhancing abilities that are set to the Rear Attack Link. In this build, this ability is linked to Jinpu, increasing its effectiveness overall.
  • Iai-Giri Mastery: Releasing the action button for Iai-Giri at the moment its completely charged will drastically reduce an enemy's maximum break gauge.
  • Action Ability MP Cost -2.6%: Reduces the amount of MP you spend when using Iai-Giri, leaving more MP for you to use on other abilities.

This build still leaves players vulnerable to enemy attacks unless they take precautions in combat such as dodging or blocking whenever an enemy seemingly attacks. Since much of your damage output is covered with the use of the Venom and Garo abilities, players will only need to take steps to boost their overall defenses through equipment effects to ensure that they live long enough to win.

Best Job Synergies and Pairings

Lancer

LancerLancer Available Weapon(s) Shield?
Lance
Cannot use shields
Basic Info The Lancer is a mid-range fighter that specializes in using lances and halberds. With its ability, the Lancer can target enemies from a distance by hurling their weapon in the direction of the enemy.

Ronin suffers from the same issue that the Swordsman and Swordfighter Jobs suffer from, and that is the lack of overall range. This makes the Job vulnerable to attacks from flying enemies, all while being unable to strike back.

The Lancer ability helps to solve this issue – make use of its Action Ability to bring flying enemies down to the ground in a stunned state and lay into them with Ronin's powerful swings.

Duelist

DuelistDuelist Available Weapon(s) Shield?
Daggers
Cannot use shields
Basic Info The Duelist is dual wielding rogue-type combatant. Equipped with daggers, it relies on quick attacks and agile dodges to land critical hits on enemies.

Another glaring issue that players will experience form the get-go with the Ronin Job is its incredibly slow attack speed. Although the actual swing of its attacks are animated fast, the slow "wind-ups" they have ultimately drag the speed down for the player.

Fortunately, a solution comes in the form of pairing the Job with Duelist, which has a significantly faster rate of attack and agility compared to Ronin. When coming up against enemies that are faster than the attacks you can perform for Ronin, pull this pairing out to start going toe to toe with your foe!
