How to Beat Black Knight

Phase 1 Fight

Phase 1 Tips and Strategies

Attack from the Sides

Black Knight - Phase 1
While Black Knight is on its horse, attacks from the flank and the rear deal considerably more damage than attacks from the front. Refrain from striking from the front because not only does it deal less damage, but it also makes you vulnerable to attacks like Rush and Trample. You can opt to strike from the rear, but be wary of Hind Leg Kick, as it is unblockable.

Stay Within Melee-Range

Black Knight - Dodge
This first phase of the boss fight will rely on agility, making quick openings and exits and executing strike attacks to deal lots of damage before Black Knight turns around or swings its lance. On the second phase of the fight, Black Knight is more vulnerable to attacks from the rear.

Phase 2 Fight

Phase 2 Tips and Strategies

Absorb Windstorm

Black Knight - Phase 2

In the second phase, Black Knight will occasionally use Windstorm to produce a small tornado that deals wind damage. Be sure to absorb this magic attack with Soul Shield as you will need it for when Black Knight summons 4 phantom copies of itself. When Black Knight activates Summon Phantoms, use Windstorm to take out the phantoms while they are still in close proximity to one other.

Use Lightbringer when Surrounded

Black Knight - Lightbringer
If you were not able to soul shield Windstorm, your next tactic would be to use Lightbringer when the close in on you. This will give you an opening to isolate a single phantom and land enough hits to erase it from existence.

Attack from the rear

Black Knight - Rear
On the second phase of the fight, Black Knight is more vulnerable to attacks from the rear. Use Ally Resonance and feed your companions to the front as you make weave to Black Knight's back and deliver the finishing blow.
