Critical Attacker Build

Stranger of Paradise - Critical Attacker Build.gif
The Duelist Job enables players to perform fast hitting attacks against enemies, but at the trade off of having weaker damage per hit. Along the many nodes in the Job Tree however, players will find that they'll have the chance to increase their own Critical Hit chance and damage.

Harnessing these stat boosts as well as the Abilities that allow playes to perform aggressively fast attacks against enemies will allow them to deplete an opponent's Break Gauge quickly.

Best Commands
ReinforceReinforce CounterCounter SwaybackSwayback
  • Reinforce: Reinforce is one of the command abilities that you can pick up in the Job Tree for Swordsman. The Ability decreases the amount of time required to charge attacks and makes the chances of being staggered when attacked low.
  • Counter: Counter is a command ability that can be unlocked in the Pugilist Job Tree. It reduces the break cost of a successful soul shield while also increasing MP restored.
  • Swayback: Swayback is a command ability unlocked in the Lancer Job Tree. Use it to jump back from enemies that are close to depleting your break gauge – successful uses of this ability allows the player to counter attack with a full break gauge against enemies.

Passive and Effect Priorities

Best Passives and Effects
Weak Spot MasteryWeak Spot Mastery Swift SwipesSwift Swipes Critical Damage +5.1%Critical Damage +5.1%
  • Weak Spot Master: This passive ability allows you to become invulnerable for the duration of your attack using the Weak Spot, which is the primary Action Ability for the Duelist Job.
  • Swift Swipes: Increases the attack speed of any Rear Attack Ability via a Link. Since the Duelist Job does not have any Abilities that can make use of that moveset, it is recommended that players unlock the Thief Job, which unlocks the Steal Ability and use that as the fourth combo making use of any of the Combo slots marked with "Weapon Skill"
  • Critical Damage +5.1%: Increases the player's ability to deal critical damage against enemies. There is another "Critical Damage" ability that you can pick up in the Job Tree that will also increase your Criticals to a further +3.6%.

Although players can quickly take care of enemies due to how fast attacking with the Duelist Job is along with its critical hit damage, it is quite difficult to see when enemies will perform attacks of their own.

Maximizing the amount of critical damage you can deal is a great way to ensure that enemies cannot get attacks off, although there will come certain instances where players will need to have gear on Jack that can healthily receive such attacks to offset any potential damage they may cause.

Agile Poisoner Build

Stranger of Paradise - Agile Poisoner.gif
One important ability when running any sort of build with the Duelist Job is Venom. This ability, activated as a Command Ability, will allow each and every successful strike that a player performs on an enemy to gradually increase that enemy's accumulation of Poison.

Enemies that receive enough hits wil cause it to be poisoned, allowing players to either hang back and evade any of their enemy's attacks, or to simply continue hammering the opponent to death.

  • Venom: Venom serves as the central focus of this build. It allows players to get enemies to gradually accumulate Poison overtime, with them eventually getting the status ailment once they have received enough hits.
It's also particularly great for players who wish to simply poison enemies before hanging back to wait until they die or are reduced in terms of their capabilities on the field.

  • Extend Evade Invincibility +16.7%: There are two of these nodes available for the Duelist Job Tree. This ability makes it so that the temporary invincibility players gain when evading enemy attacks becomes extended, giving players more leeway in how they time their dodges. Given that this build and Job in general is predicated on being fast and agile, capably dodging your enemy's attacks without repercussions is a good way to earn victories against groups of enemies.

Since the main feature of this build is the player's to poison an enemy quickly and efficiently, making use of both abilities that increase a player's speed, stamina, as well as Status Ailment Accumulation to expedite an opponent's accumulation of poison.

Best Job Synergies and Pairings

Ronin

RoninRonin Available Weapon(s) Shield?
Katana
Cannot use shields
Basic Info The Ronin is the precursor to the Samurai. The Ronin job class has the ability to charge a draw slash attack that deals heavy break damage. Fully charge this ability to increase its power.

Duelist is a powerful Job for most players looking for a more agile fighter class that can more than reliably contend against enemies. However, there will be times where groups of enemies may become bothersome for players who run low on MP due to how concentrated some of the Duelist Job's attacks can be on just one enemy.

Ronin is a particularly good solution for this issue, owing to its powerful strikes that are comparable to the kind of moveset and speed available to Swordsman. It can be used to break apart enemy groups that try to gang up on you, allowing players to circumvent any potential enemy rushes.

Swordfighter

SwordfighterSwordfighter Available Weapon(s) Shield?
Sword
Can use shields
Basic Info The Swordfighter is a lot similar to your Swordfigher, with the exception that it offers more mobility in exchange to a drop in damage output. Swordfighters can intercept enemy attacks with a successful guard, nullifying the enemy's attack and dealing counter damage in the process.

Alternatively, players can pick up a sword and shield to turtle their way through enemy attacks. Swordfighter is the said Job to go to for players looking to have a Job that has a good mix of defensive and offensive properties.

Shield up during enemy attacks, and relentlessly attack back with staggering attacks from your sword when the situation allows it to gain quick victories.
