How to Beat Chimera

Tips and Strategies

Draw Out the Fight

Chimera - Draw Out
This is a boss fight where you don't have to rush in for the kill because the Chimera will attempt to evade by flying. Instead it will benefit you more if you draw this fight out as much as you can to put yourself in a better position to attack. As long as you keep the Chimera in front of you, you can always predict what and where its next attack will be.

Let Your Team Chip in Damage

Chimera - Chip In Damage
You can let your team mates chip in damage while you observe from a distance. This could help you set up magic attacks if you plan on playing it as a Mage. Your teammates will heal on their own if they get damaged too much, so you need not worry about them. Use Ally Resonance using the left and right buttons on the D-Pad to buff up your teammate's attacks while you find an opening for critical hits.

Land Crits from Behind

Chimera Critical Hits

The Chimera is particularly weak against attacks from behind. Setting up Backstab as a Dragoon will surely land a critical hit. You can also switch to a more agile Job Class such as the Pugilist or the Duelist so you can dodge attacks like Snake Breath and Silencing Stare before they get casted in your general direction.

Stay away from Stone Gaze

Chimera - Stone Gaze
When you see the snake tail rearing up for the Stone Gaze, that's your cue to put in some distance. If you get caught by the attack it will petrifiy you and leave you vulnerable to attacks.

Social Distancing is Key

Chimera - Deadly Chorus
Once the wings have been soul bursted off, the Chimera will stick to a more ground fight. The Chimera will rely more on abilities and magic based attacks rather than still keep your distance because attacks like Deadly Chorus has a wide area of effect, which will make dodging harder to do

Earthbreaker Similar to Body Slam in terms of setup and execution, but appears to be stronger in dealing damage.

Magic-Based Attacks

Thundara Chimera's basic lightning attack that sends a bolt of lightning to its target.
Dark Cannon Usually executed when the Chimera is flying, it sends a big ball of dark energy towards its target.
Thunder Roar Another lightning based spell. This attack will send four bolts of lightning that spread out in their general direction.
Thunderous Deluge Another lightning-based magic attack that sends multiple bolts of lightning within close proximity of the Chimera.
Snake Breath An attack similar to Dark Breath but is performed by the Chimera's snake tail.
