MP Recovery Build

MP Recovery.gif
Samurai has several nifty bonuses that make it possible for players to constantly replenish their MP for use with for their Combo or Command Abilities. This build is constructed around the idea of heavy MP replenishment in conjunction with constant Ability usage against enemies.

Command Ability Setup

Best Commands
SwaybackSwayback RuinRuin ReinforceReinforce
  • Swayback: Command Ability unlocked in the Lancer Job Tree. Allows players to conduct an emergency "evasive" maneuver that causes them to step away from enemy attacks while fully replenishing their Break Gauge. Use in situations where enemy groups charge at you, and you are unable to defend ot break them apart.
  • Ruin: In a scenario when enemies are rushing at you in a group, use Ruin (unlocked in the Mage Job Tree) to send them flying back, effectively breaking their grouping and allowing you to isolate enemies in 1-v-1 combat.
  • Reinforce: Unlocked in the Swordsman Job Tree, Reinforce helps to make sure that you cannot stagger while under enemy assault. Useful when trying to go for combos against aggressive enemies.

  • Ability Damage +3.4%: Props up damage dealt when using Combo Abilities against enemies. A 2.8% variant of this ability can also be unlocked in the Samurai Job Tree.
  • Break Gauge Recovery Speed +9.1%: While in combat, it is nearly impossible to avoid enemy attacks due to the long wind-up that normal attacks in the Samurai Job have. The worse case scenario in these instances is for players to get staggered, allowing enemies to conduct follow up attacks in their vulnerable state. This support ability makes it so that the Break Gauge is almost never at any danger of depleting, allowing players to safely navigate away from dangers when needed.
  • Parry: Physical Damage Dealt +9.0%%: Successful parries will allow players to deal more physical damage against enemies in quick counterattacks. Helpful for players who wish to take on a more defensive posture, waiting for enemies to strike first in encounters.

Endless Combos Build

Endless Combo.gif
This build takes the great amounts of MP Reproduction from the previous build – however, unlike the MP Recovery Build, there is much less emphasis on defense in this build, as the idea is to defeat foes faster than they can group together or attack you by blitzing them with consecutively chained combos.

Thus, this build takes advantage of the abilities in both the Samurai and Ronin Job Tree to keep MP recovery high with MP consumption reduced to a low.

  • Zanshin: Command Ability that is unlocked in the Samurai Job Tree. This reduces the amount of MP spend on combo ability usage.
  • Ruin: Mage Job unlockable ability that sends enemies in front of you flying with a non-elemental magic attack. Similar to its usage in the prior build, this ability is mainly used for emergency situations where groups of enemies are ganging up on you.
  • Reinforce: Unlocked in the Swordsman Job, this ability provides a decreased chance of staggering from enemy attacks, allowing you to chain or link more combos together without fear of being staggered.

  • Way of the Blade: Enhances abilities set to After Parry, which restores MP based on the amount of physical damage dealt. In this case, you can set Meikyo-Shisui to this slot, giving you both MP recovery from that ability with normal attacks as well as the MP Recovery bonus this support ability provides.
  • Meikyo-Shisui Mastery: This support ability is in conjunction with Way of the Blade – this ability simply makes it easier to parry enemy attacks with Meikyo-Shisui.
  • Ability Damage +3.4%: Props up damage dealt when using Combo Abilities against enemies. A 2.8% variant of this ability can also be unlocked in the Samurai Job Tree.

Best Job Synergies and Pairings

Monk

MonkMonk Available Weapon(s) Shield?
Knuckles
Mace
Lance
Cannot use shields
Basic Info The Monk is a combination of the Pugilist and the Lancer. A specialized hand-to-hand combatant; the Monk has the ability to recover HP and refill their break gauge at the cost of MP.

Although Samurai is more than capable of recovering MP on its own, players may find its speed a little troublesome for first time players of the Job (or any job with Ronin as its root). The Monk Job is a fast-paced Job that has its own MP Recovery build – when running low, make use of that Job to recover MP and get back into the fight quick.

In addition to this, the Job has the ability to recover HP and the Break Gauge as well, which makes it an invaluable pairing that most users of Samurai can benefit greatly from. If the Job is not yet accessible, Pugilist is a good alternative that can be used in its place.

Mage

MageMage Available Weapon(s) Shield?
Mace
Can use shields
Basic Info The Mage is a job that relies on the use of magic to deal considerable damage to enemies. This class utilizes both maces and shield, making it a capable melee fighter when it runs out of MP.

Although the provided Job for this instance is Mage, you can really pair Samurai up with any of the "Mage" Jobs. This is for the benefit of having a long-ranged, weakness exploiting Job to pair with Samurai's relative short range.
