Instant Abilities are abilities in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin that are absorbed by from certain enemy attacks and stored for later use. Learn how to get instant abilities using the Soul Shield and how to activate them once they are stored.

Absorb Attacks with Soul Shield

Any enemy attack that briefly displays a purple text box as the attack animation starts can be absorbed by pressing circle to Soul Shield with the correct timing. Once the attack has been successfully absorbed, you will see an icon display at the lower right of the screen indicating that you can now use the stored attack as an Instant Ability. Press the square button (on PS4/PS5) to activate the Instant Ability.

In most cases, the enemy that cast the attack that you store as an Instant Ability will be resistant to that damage type, so using the attack immediately is not the most effective strategy. If you notice an enemy nearby that is weak to that damage type, wait until you can switch to that target before activating the Instant Ability.

Instant Ability or otherwise, using Fire on Bombs will cause them to use Grow. If the Bomb is at the highest level of growth, using Fire on it will cause it to self destruct. Usually it's best to avoid using fire on them as it's faster to take them out normally, but you could potentially use this to your advantage as long as you don't get caught up in the explosion.
