Magical Sniper Build

Stranger of Paradise - Magical Sniper Build.gif
The primary benefit that players can get from the Mage Job is the incredible amounts of magical/elemental damage they can deal from a distance. With the right Abilities from its tree and additional Equipment Effects to boost certain stats, sniping with spells from afar is all that it takes to vanquish even large groups of enemies.

ReinforceReinforce Summon TachiSummon Tachi RuinRuin
  • Reinforce: One of the abilities unlocked under the Swordsman Job Tree. Activating this command ability makes it so that casting Magic becomes faster, a useful means of dealing with enemies that are charging at you.
  • Summon Tachi: Unlocked in the Ronin Job Tree, Summon Tachi increases the amount of damage you can deal against enemies at the cost of receiving heightened damage from enemy attacks as well.
  • Ruin: Unlocked in the Mage Job Tree, this ability releases a non-elemental magic attack in front of Jack that sends enemies flying. Use this ability in emergency situations where enemies are too close for comfort.

Best Passives and Effects
Normal Attack MP Recovery +4.7%Normal Attack MP Recovery +4.7% ConcentrateConcentrate Elemental Vulnerability Resistance +24.0%Elemental Vulnerability Resistance +24.0%
  • Normal Attack MP Recovery +4.7%: This build is heavily reliant on the use of MP for casting Magic. Although MP is recharged when holding down the Magic button when charging a spell, a faster means to do it so you can send a barrage of spells is to recharge the MP gauge through Normal Attacks with your Mace against enemies.
  • Concentrate: Increases MP recovery when casting (charging) a magicla spell.
  • Elemental Vulnerability Resistance +24.0%: Raises your magical vulnerability resistance – useful when going 1-v-1 against Elementals who can almost certainly beat you in a race to see who can cast a spell first.

Recommended Equipment Effects

Equipment Effects
Magic Damage Dealt ( + )
Intellect ( + )
MP Recovery Rate with Normal Attacks ( + )

Given the Magic based reliance with this build, players will need heavy amounts of both Intellect, Magic Damage boosts, and MP Recovery Rate boosts through Normal Attacks. It is highly suggested that players take on armor pieces and weapons that have one or two of the listed Equipment Effects in order to stack their effects.

If done right, players will almost always never run out of MP to use as they send speedy barrages of magical attacks against enemies.

Melee-Caster Build

Stranger of Paradise - Melee Caster.gif
This build takes advantage of the fact that apart from being able to cast Magic, you are also equipped with a Mace that you can use to crush your enemies with. Not overly reliant on magic, but instead folding it into your combo of attacks, this build is built on the foundations of great MP Recovery and quick casts of basic Magic Spells against enemies for exploitation of their weaknesses.

Best Commands

  • Venom: Unlocked in the Duelist Job Tree, Venom ensures that every successful strike against an enemy is a costly one for them as it can accumulate the Poison Status Ailment on them, gradually draining their HP over time.
  • Summon Tachi: Unlocked in the Ronin Job Tree, this ability increases the amount of damage that you can deal with your Mace at the cost of increasing an enemy's damage against you.
  • Ruin: Emergency ability that you can use to break apart groups of enemies, as it will send a non-elemental magic attack in front of Jack. Break apart groups and isolate individual enemies while their down, allowing for easy kills with your Mace.

  • Sorcerer's Scheme: Enhances abilities set to the Rear Attack Link. It is suggested that you assign the ability Tidal Tremor to this link, as it greatly reduces the enemy's max break gauge upon the attack's impact.
  • Normal Attack MP Recovery +4.7%: With the use of your Mace, weave normal attacks into your pattern of combos to ensure that you MP Gauge is constantly filled – this allows you to make use of quick-spells whenever you wish, never leaving your opponent with an opportunity to strike back.
  • Enemy Weakness Magic Break Damage +6.5%: Increases magic break damage dealt against opponents when targeting weaknesses.

Recommended Equipment Effects

Equipment Effects
Magic Damage Dealt ( + )
Intellect ( + )
MP Recovery Rate with Normal Attacks ( + )

Although this build now makes great use of the Mace, it is still heavily reliant on MP, which makes it necessary that players be able to sufficiently recover any lost amount when MP is used in attacks.

Simply mix your attacks between quick casts of Magic and Normal and Ability attacks to get the maximum amount of damage you can deal against enemies in your way.

Best Job Synergies and Pairings

Duelist

DuelistDuelist Available Weapon(s) Shield?
Daggers
Cannot use shields
Basic Info The Duelist is dual wielding rogue-type combatant. Equipped with daggers, it relies on quick attacks and agile dodges to land critical hits on enemies.

Although Mage is a particuarly great Job to get into due to its high powered nature, it will take some time before you can take full advantage of all the perks it has to offer for you. Players new to the Job may find it difficult to adjust to the slow moving swings of the Mace, and may wish for a backup Job that has the speed that they're looking for.

Duelist is a great secondary Job to make use of, capable of dealing guaranteed criticals against enemies per strike.

Pugilist

PugilistPugilist Available Weapon(s) Shield?
Knuckles
Cannot use shields
Basic Info The Pugilist is a hand-to-hand combatant. It has good overall balance of attack and defense, however, it's selling point is the barrage of blows it lands with explosive fist.

As an alternative to Duelist, players may also wish to use Pugilist, which serves as a faster version of the close ranged fighter set-up introduced with the Duelist Job. Despite being one of the more "Basic" Jobs out there in terms of what it contains in its Job Tree, Pugilist is a significantly great Job to make use of when players wish to play fast and loose with their attacks.
