Certain rewards are only eligible in non-story difficulties. Quantities of items such as Anima Shards also vary depending on which difficulty you're on.

The Journey Begins Walkthrough

Objectives

The Journey Begins - Objective 1
・Enter the Cave
After passing by the Cube, enter a cave. Follow the left path of the cave to get a treasure chest, and then go back to continue to the path to the right. You will reach a Cube where you can replenish health and MP.

The Journey Begins - Objective 2
・Enter the Pirate Hideout
・Fight the Tonberry
After using the Cube, follow the path to the right until you meet Pirates. Take them down and proceed further until you reach a door guarded by more pirates. After opening the door, you can fight pirates and follow the path to the left.

Kill them and keep moving into the cave until you encounter a Tonberry. After beating the Tonberry, you can follow the path forward which leads you back to the hideout. Continue inside the hideout until you reach another Cube.

The Journey Begins - Objective 3
・Defeat the Coeurl
・Find a Way to the Pirate Ship
Proceed past the Cube and drop down to the cages to fight a Coeurl. Defeat it to get a key that allows you to unlock both doors to go back to the Cube or proceed further. Follow the path until you reach the Pirate ship. Go to the right to find a passage to a chest blocked by crates.

Go back and continue to the main path until it splits. Go to the right to get an item, and go back and follow the left path until you reach another split. The right leads to another chest, and the left is where you have to break Dark Vents to continue your mission.

・Break the Dark Vents
Break the Dark Vents to open up a path that leads to a Cube and a rope that you can climb up on.

The Journey Begins - Objective 5
・Get to the Ship
Go up and keep moving forward and follow the cave path that leads to a way to the ship. Break the first Dark Vent to reach a Cube, and then break the second one to reach the ship.

The Journey Begins - Objective 6
・Defeat Captain Bikke
Once you reach the ship, you will encounter and fight Captain Bikke. He uses an axe that deals wide and powerful attacks that can be difficult to avoid. Use your Soul Shield to block standard attacks, and use your command abilities or spells to start your counterattack. He can also summon Pirates in this fight, which you can defeat to regain MP.

Fighting the Tonberry

The Journey Begins - Tonberry Path 1
Follow the left side of the cave near the Cube before reaching the ship. You will find crates to break.
The Journey Begins - Tonberry Path 2
Go to the right part of the after breaking crates. You will face Pirates along the way.
The Journey Begins - Tonberry Path 3
Keep following the path and enter the metal door to fight the Tonberry

While fighting the Tonberry is optional, you can choose to follow the path from the hideout to reach it. The Tonberry has powerful debuff abilities and attacks that can kill you in very few hits, making it a test of skill whenever you decide to fight it.
