Absorb Abilities or Evade
Master Tonberry's attacks include Everyone's Grudge, a projectile attack that deals enough damage to deplete HP of players. Depending on where you encounter a Master Tonberry, you can find terrain and hide behind it until the attack finishes. Alternatively, you can absorb the attack and cast it back at Master Tonberry.
Let Your Team Take Aggro
Play the numbers and activate Resonance so that your team will rush Master Tonberry and get its attention. Once you see it distracted, you can choose to either heal up, wait for your break gauge to replenish, or use this time to get an attack off as this is you best chance of inflicting damage virtually for free.
Keep Your Distance
Anytime you see these Master Tonberries, they are usually just walking with a lamp and minding their own business. Take advantage of this by using a long-ranged attack. Spells cast by Mage or a Lance Hurl thrown by Lancer are viable options to do this.
Should you choose to close in for melee attacks, only do so if you're confident in your ability to get out as soon as you finish dealing damage. Moving around in combat is important for this fighting style so equipping jobs that use Knuckle Weapons are recommended.

| Leadfoot | Master Tonberry fires spinning projectiles around itself that apply a slow to enemies hit. |
| Numb | Master Tonberry fires projectiles that paralyze enemies hit. |

| Everybody's Grudge | Master Tonberry fires projectiles that deals damage enough to kill players. You can absorb this ability to cast it back at Master Tonberry. |
| Deathwish | Master Tonberry teleports to a target enemy. |
| Master Knife | Master Tonberry pulls out a knife that deals significat damage to HP and break gauge. |
