Critical Brawler Build

Critical Brawler.gif
Similar to the Duelist Job, Pugilist is another exceptional Job that players can take on to produce powerful attacks that more often than not get players plenty of critical hits that simply demolish individual enemies.

It is easy to move towards groups of enemies and simply let your fists fly – supplement this "attack first" mindset with fast and powerful Combo Abilities to win quickly even against powerful foes.

Best Commands
Summon TachiSummon Tachi RuinRuin VenomVenom
  • Summon Tachi: Unlocked in the Ronin Job Tree. Temporarily increases the damage Jack can both take from enemies and damage he can dish out against them. Useful for the opening phases of a battle if players are looking to deal as much damage as possible against a particularly strong enemy like bosses.
  • Ruin: Unlocked in the Mage Job Tree. Releases a non-elemental magic attack ahead of Jack that sends enemies flying – useful for getting rid of charging groups of foes, breaking them apart into smaller 1-v-1 battles.
  • Venom: Unlocked in the Duelist Job Tree. Applies poison to your attacks – once an enemy has received enough attacks, they will be afflicted with the Poisoned Status Ailment, which drains their HP over a period of time.

  • Way of the Warrior: One of the unlockable nodes in the Pugilist Job Tree. This ability enhances abilities assigned to the Alter Parry Link, guaranteeing a critical hit whenever the ability in that Link is used. In this case, assign Explosive Fist to that Link, and activate it in combat to deal critical damage in each of Jack's punches using that ability.
  • Ability Damage +3.2%: Also unlockable in the Pugilist Tree. Boosts the use of Combo Abilities in the Pugilist Tree by 3.5%. There is another, lesser form of this ability boost in the tree that can also be unlocked for an additional boost.
  • Break Gauge Recovery Speed +3.5%: Found in the Pugilist Tree, this ability helps players recover their break gauge, which is particularly useful when in a fight against multiple enemies that can quickly deplete your break gauge if you're not careful.

Recommended Equipment Effects

Equipment Effects
Critical Damage Dealt ( + )
Agility ( + )
Satus Ailment Accumulation ( + )
Break Gauge Recovery Speed ( + )

While powerful on its own, many of the bonus Equipment Effects that players should go for are ones that provide substantive increases to Critical Damage in order to deal more of it against the enemies they encounter. These bonuses become critical when fighting larger and stronger enemies that have more resistance to your attacks than regular ones.

MP Recovery Build

MP Recovery.gif
The one problem that Pugilist suffers from is that it is easy to deplete your MP Gauge if you're not careful in managing it throughout your attacks. This build is primarily focused on keeping your MP Gauge filled by putting an emphasis more on regular attacks than on making Abilities the main force in how you deal with enemeis.

Instead, these abilities must be weaved in and out of a short combo of regular attacks to keep the MP Gauge filled, ensuring that you have enough to spare when encountering strong enemies that must be dealt with quickly.

Summon TachiSummon Tachi RuinRuin VenomVenom
  • Summon Tachi: Unlocked in the Ronin Job Tree. Temporarily increases the damage Jack can both take from enemies and damage he can dish out against them. It is Abilities such as these that make keeping a full MP Gauge filled worth it, all for the benefit of inflicting as much damage as possible against enemies.
Also another ability that is worth keeping the MP Gauge filled for.

Passive and Effect Priorities

Normal Attack MP Recovery +7.3%Normal Attack MP Recovery +7.3% Fists of SteelFists of Steel Way of the WarriorWay of the Warrior
  • Normal Attack MP Recovery +7.3%: One of two abilities that replenish MP on Normal Attacks in the Pugilist Tree. This is the primary support ability that makes this build possible outside of Equipment Effects.
  • Fists of Steel: Increases break damage dealt on abilities assigned to the Charged Attack Link.
  • Way of the Warrior: One of the unlockable nodes in the Pugilist Job Tree. This ability enhances abilities assigned to the Alter Parry Link, guaranteeing a critical hit whenever the ability in that Link is used. In this case, you can assign Explosive Fist, the primary Action Ability of this Job, to that Link.

Recommended Equipment Effects

Equipment Effects
Critical Damage Dealt ( + )
MP Recovery Rate with Normal Attacks ( + )
Physical Break Damage Taken ( - )

Since MP Recovery is the primary means by which this build can outlast enemies, giving you enough MP to make consistent use of Abilities, taking on Equipment Effects that replenish MP with Normal Attacks is a must.

Physical Damage taken from enemies must also be reduced, as there are potential scenarios where you can't make use of Abilities to get rid of enemies trying to gang up on you when you're low on MP.

Best Job Synergies and Pairings

Mage Job

MageMage Available Weapon(s) Shield?
Mace
Can use shields
Basic Info The Mage is a job that relies on the use of magic to deal considerable damage to enemies. This class utilizes both maces and shield, making it a capable melee fighter when it runs out of MP.

Similar to other melee based Jobs like Duelist, a glaring weakness of Pugilist is how close you have to be to fight against enemies. This makes it difficult to fight against magic or flying based enemies like Elementals, or generally against enemies that are resistant to physical attacks.

The Mage Job enables the player to target these enemies from afar, inflicting significant damage against them if you charge Magic Spells to its maximum extent before unleashing them on the enemy.

Lancer Job

LancerLancer Available Weapon(s) Shield?
Lance
Cannot use shields
Basic Info The Lancer is a mid-range fighter that specializes in using lances and halberds. With its ability, the Lancer can target enemies from a distance by hurling their weapon in the direction of the enemy.

Alternatively, you can make use of the Lancer Job to target enemies at a distance. Simply make use of its Action Ability to fling your lance at enemeis from afar and watch as they fall to the ground, stunned. Close in with your fists then to end their lives.
