Certain rewards are only eligible in non-story difficulties. Quantities of items such as Anima Shards also vary depending on which difficulty you're on.
To unlock Ebon Memories: The Power-Hungry, you need to complete the main mission The False Warriors. You will be able to access the side mission in the map screen and mission menu after completing the main mission.

The Kraken is weak against Thunder-based attacks. Weapons like the Magister's Club (which imbues your normal attack with Thunder), and Thunder Black Magic will break its gauges completely.
