The Action Command for Ice Smash requires the player to tilt and hold the L stick to the left. Release the L Stick once the star icon at the end lights up. This will allow Mario's hammer attack to do more damage and freeze the target enemy.
The Stylish Move timing for Ice Smash requires the player to press the A button upon releasing the L Stick so that the stylish move is registered as the enemy is hit. This makes Mario do a backflip. Press the A button again once he lands his flip to perform his second stylish move.
