Glitz Pit Collectibles, Enemies, and Points of Interest
Total Coins Invested | Coins Returned | |
---|---|---|
100 coins | → | 300 |
200 coins | → | 500 |
300 coins | → | 999 |
Lumpy is a green Ratooey NPC found around the east side of the Rogueport dock who will ask Mario if he wants to invest in something.
From the game's Prologue to the start of Chapter 4, Mario can invest up to three payments of 100 coins each to Lumpy. After Chapter 6, Lumpy will return a set amount of coins, depending on how much was invested before, so it's highly recommended to give Lumpy a grand total of 300 coins to get the most out of it.
Mario can collect coins by defeating enemies in battles. However, the amount of coins Mario can collect is very limited, making this method of farming coins inefficient.
Defeating bosses in their own respective chapters will reward you with 100 coins. This is one of the new features added in the Switch remake of the game.
Money Money is a badge that increases the amount of coins dropped by enemies. However, the effect is underwhelming since you won't really get a lot of additional coins per battle.
Furthermore, the badge is expensive, costing 702 coins worth of Pianta Tokens to obtain, so it's not recommeded to get it just to earn a few more coins from battles.
The max amount of coins in the game was increased past 999 in the Switch remake. You don't have to worry about losing any coins as you near 999, as the max amount has been increased.
Paper Mario TTYD Switch Remake New Features and Differences
Item | Buying Price | Selling Price |
---|---|---|
Gold Bar | 110 coins | 100 coins |
Gold Bar x3 | 350 coins | 300 coins |
If you still want to store your coins somewhere, you can purchase a Gold Bar or Gold Bar x3 at the Deepdown Depot in the Rogueport Sewers.
Gold Bar is an item that has no purpose other than to be sold at the shop and exchanged for coins. Given this, it's highly recommended to deposit the item in your storage via any shop so it won't fill up Mario's limited inventory space.
Coins are mainly used to buy items and badges at the shops scattered around the game world. The items sold and their prices vary from shop to shop, so if players want something to buy, they should check the shop's selection and prices before purchasing.
Mario can also pay a certain amount of coins to stay at an inn, which will fully recover his HP, FP, and SP. Mario can also recover HP and FB by paying coins at recovery blocks placed on the field, however, they don't recover SP.
Coins can also be used to obtain Pianta tokens at the Pianta Parlor, which are used to play games and purchase items inside the casino.
Pianta Tokens can be obtained by exchanging 3 coins per Pianta Token at the exchange machine inside the Pianta Parlor.
Once Mario exchanges coins for Pianta Tokens, he can't exchange Pianta Tokens to get coins back.
Pianta Tokens are exclusively for playing games or exchanging prizes in the Pianta Parlor, so players need to think carefully when exchanging coins for Pianta Tokens.
