To unlock more moves for Mario, you can equip Badges that give Mario additional attacks during battle. You can find these Badges inside treasure chests across the world or from merchants that sell Badges.
As you progress through the game, you'll find boots and hammer upgrades that will give Mario additional actions in the overworld. These equipment upgrades will also add new jump and hammer moves that Mario can use in battles.
Every Crystal Star you find as you progress through the game, including the Map that you'll receive in the Prologue chapter, will give Mario unique special moves.
These moves are extremely helpful as they can easily damage multiple enemies or heal your team, but they use up Star Power points instead of Flower Points. Star Power can be replenished by appealing to the audience or executing stylish moves.
Upon recruiting party members, they will only have access to two moves. Leveling your party members up via Merlon in Rogueport will unlock their third move, but you need 3 Shine Sprites per party member to do so.
To unlock their fourth move, you need to find an item called the Up Arrow in Hooktail Castle and give it to Merlon. You will then be able to level up your characters again, which will unlock their last move.
