There are several collectibles to search for in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (TTYD). Read on for a list of all Star Piece, Shine Sprite, block, hidden block, and Crystal Star locations in the game!
List of Contents
The Crystal Stars are the collectibles that the game is centered around as Mario visits locations around the map to collect them. These are seven Crystal Stars to get during the story, with each one granting Mario a special move that he can use in fights.
Star Pieces are shiny, diamond-shaped collectibles that are scattered all over the game's map. These are relatively hard to find as they are not visible in the overworld.
There are 100 Star Pieces to collect in the game, which can then be used to purchase Badges from Dazzle in Rogueport Sewers.
Shrine Sprites are collectibles used to upgrade Mario's party members. These collectibles are relatively easier to find as they are encased inside translucent blocks.
There are 42 Shine Sprites to collect in the game, which is just enough to level up every possible party member to their max level.
Mario, like in his platforming games, can hit blocks by jumping or hitting them with his hammer. You can get items, coins, and Badges from blocks and hidden blocks spread throughout the game.
Treasure chests can be found across the game's map and contain various useful loot, ranging from healing items, keys to unlock areas, and even Badges!
Badges are equippable items that give Mario extra moves and attacks, or buff him or a party member with more health, FP, or increased stats.
You can get Badges from blocks, treasure chests, or purchase them from certain merchants.
The fortune-teller Merluvlee, who is residing in Rogueport Sewers, can give Mario hints on where to find Star Pieces and Shine Sprites. You need to pay Merluvlee five coins to get hints about Star Pieces, and ten coins for Shine Sprites.
