Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (TTYD) offers players the choice of playing as different characters. Read on to learn which characters are playable in the game!

List of Playable Characters

Mario

Playable Character	Description
Mario	The main playable character of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door who is searching for the Crystal Stars to save Princess Peach from the X-Nauts.

Mario, the protagonist of the game, is also the most versatile playable character, being able to use moves and actions that are exclusive to him, and not the other playable characters.

Alternate Outfits

Some of Mario's badges will let you change his outfit. This only changes Mario's appearance and does not affect his stats in any way.

Alternate outfits are not alternate playable characters. So while these badges will let you dress as Luigi or Wario, you will not be actually playing as Luigi or Wario.

Using both the L and W Emblems will let you use Waluigi's Outfit

Peach

Playable Character	Description
Peach	The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom who was taken away by the X-Nauts.

You can play as Princess Peach at the end of each chapter in intermission levels. Peach does not engage in battle, but she can stealthily sneak around. This comes as a departure from Mario and the main game's more fast-paced gameplay.

Bowser

Playable Character	Description
Bowser	Ruler of the Koopas who grew jealous after knowing the X-Nauts kidnapped Peach, and went out to find the princess.

Bowser is also available at the end of each chapter in intermission levels. You can play as Bowser in side-scrolling adventures with an infinite number of lives.

Peach and Bowser become playable in between chapters in their intermissions. These short levels simply advance their side of the story.

These levels cannot be replayed, so make them count in your playthrough!
